Why does the TL BT suck so bad at 9's?
If I START a number with '9'.. I live in Dallas / Ft. Worth area, so most numbers I call start with (972) - the thing gets the first '9' correct about 5 percent of the time. I'm an average white guy with NO accent what-so-ever.
To put it in perspective, I had three BMW's before this, two of which had Bluetooth in them. BMW's implementation was MUCH better, and got the numbers right 98% of the time. I could rattle the number off as fast as possible and it would catch them. Never ceased to amaze me!
Now with the 05 TL I'm frustrated by the fact that you can't scroll through the address book on the screen like you can in the BMW and others (it's a Bluetooth supported spec) AND it's just SOOOO terrible at getting the 9 right when it's the first number in the sequence. It will show it as '2' or '7'... both sound NOTHING like 9. Anything else I say as a first number it will get 95% of the time.
It's very buggy looking to me. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem?
Otherwise I love the car!

hey adam, check out the polls, you'll see lots of asians owning the car, so may be acura improvised for accents. try sayin it like an Indian ... or chineese just kidding man ...
Actually one thing that helped me with the Voice Recognition (VR) was speak more naturally. eg. instead of ... 9.....2....7 with pauses trying to help the system. Let the system help you...
551.999.8822
and it works 80% of the time for me. some time it make my 551 to 555, but its bearable.

Obviously, 3GTL's current HFL voice recognition system isn't that good. And, it's even worse than Navi's voice recognition system. Since Honda/Acura plans to upgrade Navi's to IBM's system, we hope HFL's could be improved as well.
Sorry to hear this. But, maybe you could practice a little more and find the right "tone" for this HFL system.

I can practice all day long, but the point is that I owned a couple BMW's that I would literally TRY to screw up, and they figured it out. I could talk very fast, I could use different accents, you name it, and the thing was amazing.
The TL is terrible at voice recognition. I've tried every trick in the book and it's just bad. If you have the HFL setup, try dialing a number like 972-555-1212. You'll find that it says the first 9 is a 7 or often an 8 or a two. It'll get the rest right. That's why I think it's a bug. IF it thought the 9 was a 5 every time, I could give it credit, as they sound similar, but it's NEVER thought of the 9 as a 5, but a 7, 8, 0 or 2 every time.
Ohhh well at least the stereo is great!

My biggest problem is when i say "transfer" to transfer a call it either quits or goes to system options the first time i do it after turning on the car. 90% of the time the transfer command works great after that initial bug, so whenever i start my car i do a transfer command and let it mess up on purpose.

Actually Acura's voice portion of the navi is developed by IBM... however the HFL voice is done by JCI (Johnson Controls), as a former employee of Johnson Controls, I can say that their quality isn't the best...
