What's the deal with Ipod and their batteries?

Ok back when I bought my Creative Lab Nomad Xtra I remember the Ipod's battery dies off around a year (like most lithium Ion batteries). But the Ipod didn't have an easy fix other than sending it to apple for 86 bucks. So that's why I bought the Creative, now my battery has died so I need to buy one, I found a site that sells for 20 bucks. I was pondering buying a new Ipod, but I just don't see spending 250 on an mp3 player when I'll have to send it in for 86 bucks every 2 years or so. anyone want to elaborate, maybe I'm wrong?

There are many, many, many-many companies that will swap your iPod battery for around $20. And there are many site that will teach you how to do it yourself. The failure rate of the iPod battery is no higher than other devices.

I've had my iPod for almost 4 years. Only had the battery replaced once. Apple did it for $25 because of a class action lawsuit involving their old style battery. My new battery seems to hold a charge hours longer than the first one....even when new.

well that's good to know, I thought apple was going to have problems with the lack of ease of removal for those who aren't tech savvy.

I agree with Nick. I've had my iPod for more than 2 years and the battery still does not need to be replaced.
