Angry What are those white dots (circles) on my nav screen?

I see them everywhere and it is driving me nuts. They appear on areas where there are no roads, somtimes throught the middle of golf courses that I may be driving by. They are almost always in some sort of line formation. Sometimes there are only a few of them in a line and other times there are hundreds of them all clumped together.

Does anyone know what they are?

Thanks!

Yes, electronic breadcrumbs. They allow the TL to show you the way back if you venture into uncharted territories (aka unverified areas).

But the appear in areas I have never driven in (I can't remember the last time I drove my TL on a golf course but yet those white dots are all over the course on my nav screen)

Check with your wife or girlfriend. She may be taking your car for joyrides on the course at night

Sometimes the navigation system is a little quirky like that. I have seen that happen to my car also.

Yes satellites can be off, and cause this to happen. One time, I was driving along the highway in a loaner RL and all of a sudden the Navi showed me driving off the road and through a field. Sure enough, moments later, it began leaving the breadcrumbs, even though I was still on the highway. It's nothing to worry about.

p45 & 58 from 05 Navi Manual

After you have traveled approximately 1/2 mile away on a mapped road (you should get "Not on a digitized road" at the bottom of the screen) the Navi will display a series of white dots. Tracking continues for 150 miles. The dots at the beginning of the trail will start to disappearing when you exceed that limit. When you reach a mapped road, displaying dots is terminated.

To clear existing dots, turn this feature off on Screen 2 of the Setup menu. Look for Track Offroad Position. Then go back to Screen 1 and back to Screen 2 and enable.

They are trying to show you the stright line back to your destination when it doesn't know how to route you. Kind of an "as the crow flys" direction. This way as you drive down a road you'll always know at least in what direction you need to go if your destination "target" icon is not visable on the screen.

in other words...WAD (working as designed)

I know what you are talking about - they drive me crazy too, and they are NOT electronic breadcrumbs - they're slightly larger..

I see them on a golf course close to where I work, and they show up in my wife's TL and my TSX..

does ANYBODY know what these are? they're driving me crazy!!!!

as I said in my post, these dots are different than the breadcrumbs / offroad tracking. Even if I turn off "Track Offroad Position" they are always there and in the same position. I'll try to take a picture of them when I go down to lunch and post it here.

Those are the tracking dots.

is there a parking lot in the golf course? do you park your car in it?

I only see the dots in unknown places

though..

it could be the new Bird Tracking technology on the TL.

those are dots that show where you have "driven" on. the satellites, as stated earlier, can be easily off.

as you can see, you can connect the dots and create lines and curves.

ok you guys are so right.. it is the breadcrumbs. turns out when I leave the garage at work it takes a while for it to pick up the sattelites again. during that time the nav thinks i'm driving through the golf course
