A larger woofer is def. considerable as one of the options, but our main focus at the moment is to utilize the factory amp and design it as a complete drop in. Not everyone wants to go crazy with a new amp and running power wires throughout the car and most just want that tiny bit that it should have came with.
Ben is a great person and his products speak for themselves. I just wish he wasn't this darn busy! I want my bass!
Well nothing is certain yet, as this is just an "interest" list. But we have been working towards a pretty good relationship with Elemental Design Audio and we are in the stages of designing an application to work with our budget, as well as factory integration without modifying anything else. I'll keep the thread updated as soon as I hear news, but it's a bit slow on their end so we all just have to sit tight for a little while.
Thanks!

It would be a 8" drop in sub. Factory sub woofer replacement that would directly drop in and utilize all stock equipment, wiring, and amplifier.
No after market amp required! - efficient enough to perform full duty with the available ~100 watts of the stock amplifier.
No larger gauge wiring required! - runs on factory wires. Simply plug out the old sub, plug in the new.
Complete drop in. It would be a straight replacement, so you don't need to modify, or cut your rear shelf.
Custom built just for our application by a very reputable audiophile company. They focus most of their applications on a balance of of SQ and SPL, but much more biased towards sound quality and fidelity. So you won't only gain low end extension, but also improve the quality of your low-end.
Better sound quality, accuracy, and more bass.
Under $100.
Just seeing the interest, if there are any who want some more thump, but don't want to go with the extreme of a full sub woofer enclosure, amplifier, and etc. Just simple a bit more bass, the way it should have came stock.
If you are definitely interested in something like this, and would highly consider it if it came out, say "I'm interested". Feedback welcome.

I'm interested/curious as to what the results will be so count me in.
Also, I see alot of people demanding updates on this project. Somestimes it can take a while to engineer something such as this. Then it has to go through a series a tests. After test results, the design or something may get changed and the sub may have to be redone or re-engineered (and more tests after re-engineering). This could take some time especially if it hasnt been done before. Along with the fact that Ben is a busy man. Be patient, i'm sure Mike wont leave us hanging.
Mike I appreciate your efforts on this. I dont care what nobody say, you're alright with me man!

This is a wrap of what is currently happening.
We've sent over the factory subwoofer and amp which they have cut open to research what cone material and internals they have used for the sub. This enables them to decide what type of woofer engine/cone to design on the new one that will improve the subs SQ/SPL functions over the factory woofer.
3 different designs were blueprinted with the main difference being the spider design, and we have choose one we agreed on would provide a good increase in both.
Now they are finalizing the details of the sub and then it will go over to making the actual prototype sub. This process takes about 6-8 weeks and includes the following: 2 weeks of development (structural/design/fitments/graphics). 2 weeks of building. 2 weeks of any modifications to the original design. 2 weeks of transit between all of the process.
Once that is done, we will do a SPL vs. Frequency test and compare that over the factory woofer. If we see gains, production begins.
But until then just post up if you are interested either way so I get an idea of how many we are looking at.

All in all, it's not a bad woofer from the factory, but it could be a lot more efficient in providing more output. Although it is labeled a 2-ohm woofer, it resides a littler higher than 3-ohm. It could prove to be a lot more efficient depending on the motor design and if the amplifier can handle it.
They will be cutting open the woofer and I'll keep ya guys updated.

If stock, I can see why it's so shitty. Not only is it paper, but the efficiency is 85 decibels. Yuk.
For a 100 watt stock woofer we need a drop-in replacement that will have a sensitivity rating of 90+ decibels @ 1 watt @ meter.
Something like this: http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...9GTO804&tp=111
Although I do realize that's a 4-ohm impedance driver. There must be a 2-ohm replacement.
But, at optimum impedance matching (2 ohm amp and 2 ohm speaker) the output from the amp will be HALF on the speaker. Thus, if our amp puts out 100 watts, the speaker can max out at 50. Thus, we CAN put in a 3 or a 4 ohm replacement sub, as long as it fits, and is highly efficient.
