I actually have a question on this myself. Is there a way I can use a button like that, to use for my iPod?

I just bought a rocker switch from Kragen Auto Parts. It is rated at 30amp. On the back there is 3 possible connections. Ground, load and power. I have a Dom's TVandNav unit, if I was to cut the black and red wire from the switch that came with this unit. Where should the red and black wire go on the new switch?

The switches are $13 dollars at the dealership right now. Not bad, considering. I got one, and plan on a similar mod, but momentary to reboot my carputer.

I just found the thread and I am interested in a nice and clean way to install a dvd/tvtuner and possibly an ipod to my stock 05 tl with nav. What all parts will I need? What do I get from you and how much? Who has the other parts?

Thanks a bunch

DCC's switch.

You don't need his particular switch per say. I was reading one of his threads and I tried it out myself and it works like a charm. All you need is a VSA switch from Acura ($9.00 - $12.00) depending on how sheisty your local dealership is. A mini push on/ push off switch from Radio shack,(3 bucks) or so. A grinder to cut away some of the plastic on the switch. Some epoxy to mount the mini switch into the VSA to allow the plunger to make contact to the upper part of the switch or a dowel to be placed inside the spring to allow the on/off functionality. A DVD logo which may be the hardest part because finding a local shop to make one is a B*&^cH and a half. I finally got one made for (8 bucks) and bought some testers flat black paint for 5 bucks and some paint remover (3 bucks) to get the original VSA lettering off. 5 bucks for some quick disconnects and some wiring to connect LED to contact 3 and 4 and of course to connect DOM's unit and then put it all together and your done.

Total was like 25 bucks and about an hour and a half once everything was purchased. Tested it in the car and I'm very pleased so far.

He gave perfectly good instructions on one of his threads and when he was selling them he was charging 70 bucks I think. Good luck either way you go. I'll post pictures of mine once I complete my dvd mount.

Never considered selling one.

Well I never thought about making a second switch but I think I can see why he charged 70 bucks. The time it takes to gather supplies, paint and reassemble the switch and attach the wires is worth at least that much. I already have some of the parts but unfortunately, I just don't have the time. I haven't really completed my entire install yet. I still have to tuck in some wires of my own. I work full time and go to school at night so my free time is extremely limited. I can give you any advice you need on putting one together though. It's fairly simple to do, if you have the time.

If we're looking for a shop to do this, can you tell us what to look for? Magic phrases to search for in the Yellow Pages?

DVD Stensil Sticker.

The actual Switch is an inch and a half long and about 4/5ths of an inch wide. You should look for a shop that does "stencil Stickers" graphics shops or model car detailing. They usually work with small stencils and you may even be able to get a good paint match. Testers flat black works well. Anyway, it took about amonth for me to find a place to do it after trying it myself at home with exacto knives unsuccessfully. custom logos or stencil stickers might help your search. I live in Long island ny and i found a local mom and pop sign maker shop to do it for me. They didn't want to at first because of the small quantity I was ordering "Just 1". I forgot how much I paid but I think it was like 10 bucks. Hope this helps.

I have actually completed my switch. Instead of using the VSA switch, I bought a fog light switch from Honda which is already an on/off switch; therefore I did not have to worry about converting the VSA momentary switch to an on/off switch.

This switch not only has the light that lights up when the car's lightswitch is on...it also has a light that comes on when the switch is in the on position.

It looks just like the DCC switch accept now I have that additional light above the DVD logo that lights up when the switch is on.

Looks good

The Honda dealer initially quoted my much higher than this, then I showed them this and they beat that price

At Hondapartsdeals.com
08V31-SDA-1M035 007 SWITCH, FOGLIGHT - $14.76
08V31-SDA-10130 005 FOGLIGHT SWITCH HARNESS - $18.45 (used harness connector and wire portion of this because difficult to connect to terminals of the switch)

Stencil - $6
Used model/plastic paint remover, clear super glue to fill in small imprint of fog light symbol, extremely fine sandpaper and testors flat black enamel

Haven't install in vehicle yet.....will do tomorrow with rest of DVD system:
AV electronics Navi interface
Myron and Davis AD212
Myron and Davis custom headrest with monitors - 7 inches
Myron and Davis wireless headphones
Video amplifier
gameports

I can send a picture of the switch, but I do not know how to attach...need directions

The terminals on the back of the switch were hard to get to and make connections to, so I bought the harness that goes with the switch; therefore I could easily connect to the wires that go to the terminals of that switch. The harness has a few different connectors on it for the fog light application...just cut those off and use the connector that fits into the switch and the wires that come from it.

I utilized the navigation interface unit from av electronics, so if you are using a different interface, your wiring to the interface would be similar, but a different color wire. Here goes:

1) Connect red wire with fuse from navi interface to grn wire of switch
2) Remove red/blk jumper
3) Connect red/blk wire (the one connected to contact in switch) to 12V (+) power ACCESS.
4) Connect blu wire to ground
5) Connect and splice red/blk wire from #2 in switch to contact #3 of VSA switch
6) Connect and splice red wire from #2 in switch to contact #4 of VSA switch

NOTE: IF YOU ARE LOOKING AT THE MALE SIDE OF THE VSA SWITCH WITH THE LOCKING TAB ON TOP, IT IS CONTACT #3 AND #4 COUNTING FROM LEFT TO RIGHT. CONTACT #3 IS POSITIVE, CONTACT #4 IS NEGATIVE

Yo when you removed the paint, did you cover that rectangular area where it is lit when "on" position with tape so the paint remover won't ruin that area? Also did the paint remove melt the plastic or causes uneven surface to where u have to use fine sand paper? I used paint thinner and it somewhat melt the plastic and so i had to sand it down with fine sand paper. And what do you mean by using super glue?

seems the harness for the 2007 Accord is on Back Order with no expected date to arrive. So is there any other switch/harness combo that I can buy? Or how hard would it be to wire the switch up with out the harness? Thanks

The paint thinner I used was Testor's enamel thinner. I just put some on a rag and rubbed off all the paint. I seperated the button from the actual switch so that the thinner would'nt get on anything else. There are two tabs holding it onto the switch. I never had a problem with the plastic melting probably because I never applied the thinner to the button directly. I always used a rag. As for the super glue, I never used it. After I removed the black paint, there was a faint image of the foglight. I just sanded it down a bit with fine sand paper and it was fine. I just used spraypaint to paint it black again because I wasn't able to get a nice even coat using the Testor's flat black; it looked painted. The spray paint worked just fine.

When I ordered mine, it was like the last one that could be ordered. It took about a week and a half to get to the Honda dealer and when I ordered them, he told me that these were the last ones in the system. I'm not sure what other Honda switch/harness combo's there are but I know you could use a VSA switch from Acura and modify it with a push-button switch. I have no idea how to wire it without the harness. In fact, I'm having trouble wiring up my switch to Dom's unit and have it light up via tapping into the VSA wires. The DIY I'm using has instructions for the AV Electronics unit instead of Dom's. I'm trying to figure it out but could definitely use some help. It's gonna look sick once I'm finished but this wiring is the last thing I need to complete and it's freakin frustrating!!

***Hope this helps. And continue to ask questions b/c this is a great mod if we can figure out the wiring.
