Viper 5902+db-all+smartstart or Vss5000
Well i plan on tackling this project over the winter. i just want to get the ball rolling on all the info i can. i've been on Viper, com and 12volt for a while now getting info.
At first, i was looking at the Vss5000 complete system and really couldn't get alot of info besides its a basic security with remote start and the smartstart system.. comes with one added 1-way remote and you will still be able to use the factory alarm. I dont think you could add more to the unit (ie. windows, aux features) so thats why i started looking into the 5902 w/ a smartstart system. Read thru alot of pages today so i think all i need is a db-all ( which is a combination of pkh34 and xk01).
Now my only problem is that i believe the db-all and vsm200 work off the same d2d plug on the Vss5000 system and cannot be spliced according to the 12volt.
heres the thread.
http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/...&KW=smartstart
he stated that the db-all MIGHT come with a Y but he hasnpt updated since 12/2/10
Will i run into the same thing on a 5902?
Any and all info would be appreciated.
I will be using this thread for the installation.

Ok... please do not get the vss 5000. It just a cheap remote starter couple with the VSM 200. That remote started by itself costs no more than 100 bux. Get the 5902 or 5901 and couple that with the VSM 200 for the smart start. And why do you want to use the db-all? Why dont you use the fortin module instead? They are suppose to be much better.
Also to initially activate the smart start system I believe you need to be a DEI dealer so that you can log in to their server or some crap... dont know if you already have a link for that.. but figured I throw that out there.

Not familiar with the VSS 5000, but I echo the previous poster to use a 5901 or equivalent. If you want to pay extra for the color remote, then go with the 5902. There is zero difference in functionality of the brains.
That said, based on the manual I read, you'll have no problem using the SM200 with a 5901/2. It plugs into the Bitwriter port.

Doesn't the db-all also plug into the bitwriter port??
The vss5000 is out the question, I just wanted confirmation of how shittt the alarm function would be. So I'll check out the 5901/5902 tonight some more. But does it sound correct- 590#,db-all,and sm200 to get window function, easier set-up, aux options and smartstart??
I read your thread nfn using canmax, why that over db-all?

IIRC canmax is being made anymore or released. I have a xk01 or xk05 I can't remember that I'm not using if you want to buy it off me lemme know. Read thru the viper install thread too. I read that thread at least 100 times before installing it myself. My Only issue was programming it altogether.

No, not according to the diagram I'm looking at:
Window function? You mean the standard roll-down that comes with the car? Yes, in the sense that you can stilll do that from the OEM remote. I don't know that you will be able to do window roll down from the 5901 remote without adding an additional window module....
I'm not even sure if the DBALL was available then. Why CANMAX? Because it docks right into the 5901 and requires no wiring between the CANMAX and 5901... (I'm talking the canmax400dei)
I think it's been discontinued, but apparently still available on Ebay.

now that there are newer features/products, what would you suggest?
Like i said, im looking for standard OEM features to stay intact and keeping the install as simple as possible.

Cuban, i remember reading you were going to have your install redo all the work, did it ever get there or was it all programming?

From page 3 of the DBALL manual that can be downloaded from here (HONDA4 version):
http://www.xpresskit.com/product.asp...1#m_401.HONDA4
Yeah, should be able to set the aux to trigger the KP module.
The brain has a compartment. Remove the plastic door/cover and you'll see a 7-pin connector (along with the light flash polarity jumper). The canmax has a 7-pin female plug and plugs in flush with the unit. Throw the lid away...
I believe some of the blade modules (from fortin??) dock as well. there may be others, haven't been keeping up....
As far as I know, the canmax has all the available features. It also retains the OEM seat memory functions for driver 1, and does not unlock the car to remote start (most other modules aren't as smart as the canmax and just send a door unlock pulse to disable the factory alarm so the car can be remote started. Unfortunately, this leaves your car unlocked for a few seconds until the remote start sequence is complete. The Acura is databus/network is capable of disarming the alarm without unlocking the doors and the canmax knows how to take advantage of this. It sends a signal through the canbus to disable the alarm, but not unlock the doors).

I had them go over everything i did to which they were shoked I did so good for a first timer and on a TL at that. Their were a few things that needed to be fixed and then reprogrammed too now everything is good. Lovin my remote start right now!! I just gotta hook up my defroster feature i haven't done that yet. nfnsquared hooked me up with a diagram for that in that thread.

I also have a bootloader 2. You'll want that to be able to flash the 400dei unless it comes flashed with the latest Acura firmware.

I'm more than happy with the 400dei. It's no longer in production, so I'm not sure what kind of support/firmware updates the company will provide. I haven't even checked yet.

Do you have a link to the boatloader 2? I guess I will go with the canmax400 and find out from DEI if it can be updated.

Alright so i finally have time for this. looking to buy the VSM200, 5901, and DBALL by this weekend.
Any last comments/concerns before i buy. I just called a few shops and the 1K pricetag wasnt bad but i just hate other people touching my car knowing i can do the work and do it better cuz its MY car... i can get all 3 parts for ~500.
Does anyone know if i'll run into any problems with activating the Smartstart?
Everything seems very simple. the DBALL took alot of wires off the TO-WIRE list.
looking for any input.
Thanks.

I just read on the FAQ that professional installation of the smart start is required and only they could activate.... They also took the installation and user guide off their site
but their FAQ looks old and not updated so that might have changed.. anyone?

Not trying to hijack but damn I need to start doing my alarm research!!! I've never installed an alarm on a car with a canbus system, so i'm not used to all these add on units required, seems like there are quite a few options not to mention talk of
I installed a clifford matrix 3.5 on my Acura legend and will be installing this one myself too. Are there any good links you guys would recommend to start my research on these on other units needed other the the alarm brain?
I'm pretty sure ill be getting a 5902 and some extra sensors, I want remote start and control over my windows from the remote.
I am mostly excited about my custom add ons I want to add; The first is to integrate a rain sensing unit that automatically closes my windows when it starts to rain, should be fairly easy to do. Still surprised this feature is limited to only a few cars in Europe and maybe a few WV here. The second is to have the alarm activate my motion sensing video camera/dvr unit to start recording when it senses motion.

Using an interface module through D2D (Data to Data) uses the 4 pin port on the directed brains. The Smartstart module uses the 3 pin bitwriter port. Worse case, you can always hook up the interface module using W2W (Wire to Wire) instead.

Were you able to install the SmartStart without the dealers intervention?
As mentioned here, you cannot activate smartstart unless we buy it and get it installed through a dealer.
I can get smartstart for less than half the cost online through online retailers.
