V710 vs T637

I have the Sony Ericsson with Cingular and absolutely love it!!! I have had samsung, sanyo and motorola phones.... and I have to say this phone is the best phone that I have every had!

I picked up the T637 from Samsclub (only 1 year contract) for $49 after the $50 mail in rebate... I left sprintpcs so that I could get this phone (I tried the Sony Ericsson T608 .... that was a joke!). The coverage with Cingular GSM is much better in my area.

If I already had Verizon and had to stay with them I would probably get the V710 for bluetooth reasons.... I also like the fact that I can see my signal strength and battery level on my TL display while the phone is my pocket... which I don't believe this feature works for the V710... at least not yet.

I have reviewed the 710 before I got this one and don't get me wrong it is a pretty sweat phone but for $300-$400, I think I will stick with my T637

YEAH I really love mine too, but I wish the buttons were not so close together. Pretty annoying, but I'll probably get used to it.

If Cingular had better coverage I would switch from Verizon.. I live in MD and VZW seems to have just about every area covered.. So for us die hard VZW fans the v710 is perfect.. Now we just have to wait for the firmware upgrade to get our battery and signal icons in the MID. Glad you enjoy your T637.. Very good choice in phone!!

I'm happy with my T637 that I paid -$50 for after rebate. Seems like $300-$400 is a lot to pay for a flip phone that still doesn't seem to work perfectly with the HFL.

But if Verizon is you're only choice of provider then its either that phone or the V600 which people also seem to be complaining about.

I got mine at Sams too but it cost me $100 with no rebate for a 1 year contract. I thought the rebate was only for a 2-year plan (unless they changed it in the last month)? Please correct me if I'm wrong so maybe I can take advantage of this. BTW, love the phone and service!

I got the phone about a month ago from Sam's, phone was ok but Cingular didn't work at my house, so I returned it. They gave me a rebate form. On the Cingular site they have the rebate form to print, it may be different for different areas. Here is the rebate for Fla. area, it says for purchase from Aug. 1-14 with 1 or 2 year agreement(they are constantly updating the rebate dates). I would call Sams's and tell them they didn't give you the form and have them make it right.

Dheel, thanks for the info and link. Unfortunately I purchased the phone in the early part of July so I assume that the rebate wouldn't apply to me.

I would try talking to Sams/cell dept. and explain to them that they didn't give you the rebate form and maybe they would work something out. The rebates are usually ongoing they just keep updating the dates of purchase on the form.

I love my 637. I had a seimens s46 with att and poor gsm coverage. switched to cing. and new 637 and alll the batt and sig. indicators work, great audio and is fully duplexed, I love the set up. I need to chg. battery at least every other day. I think when blue tooth is on it uses more power.

I get a week out of a charge on T637 if I shut Bluetooth off when I'm not using it.

Currently have Verizon and really hate the v710. Complete crap. So thinking I'll get a one year contract with this phone. Didn't like the 610 (buttons too small) Any good info would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Pairing?

HFL web site does not list the T637 nor pairing instructions. Are the pairing instructions the same as T630??

Just follow the pairing instructions in the TL manual and you'll be fine.

The only things to remember are that you'll have to turn Bluetooth on any time you want to use the HFL. There's nothing stopping you from leaving Bluetooth on all the time but your phone's battery will wear down a bit faster.

Also put it into "search" mode before you pair it. You can turn off search mode once its paired though. I don't remember how exactly I did this but I know the whole pairing process took less than 5 minutes and I had no instructions (other than the car and phone manuals) and not a clue what I was doing.

One of the things I like about the T637 is how easy it is to turn the BT on and off (at least with the Cingular flashed one). ATT I think takes out the "more" menu on the main screen, making things harder. Compared to the motorolas where you have to go through many menus to turn it off, on the Cingular T637 I have to press two buttons (about 5 seconds) to turn it off, and thus, save battery.

Also, its a good idea to turn off the BT when not using it to prevent people from "hijacking" your phone.

to my knowledge you can't "hijack" (or bluejack, whatever) the newer phones (my T616 w/ updated software, T630/T637, and a bunch of other phones).

I have an AT&T configured T616 and it's easy to turn BT on and off. Re-connecting (should the BT session crap out) takes more clicks and time.

Last thing -- the T610/630 are the same phones as the T616/637 other than external color, slight software differences, and frequency. The T-Mobile ones (610/630) have the older 900Mhz GSM band, whereas the AT&T/Cingular 616/637 phones have the new 850Mhz North American band. All phones have 1800/1900Mhz (Euro/USA, respectively).

If your BT is on anyone can get in. They can use a BT laptop and gain access to all of your files...

not exactly. Some phones require...actually most phones require you to accept the connection before pairing but yes there are ways around that too but either way, the person with the phone would be notified of a connection. It's just standard. The term you are thinking of is bluejacking.
