V600 - Clam Open or Closed for HFL to work???
Any updates on the patch to have the HFL work properly when the clam is closed. The only way I can get mine to work while closed is to push talk then transfer the call. By the time I do that, the other party has hung up. The HFL works great with the clam is open but that's a pain in the ass to keep open in the car. Any fix from Motorola?

I just spent some time playing with the V600 and how it works with the HFL (having an Acura HFL specialist with me) and we came to the following conclusion: Having the clam closed it is a 50% chance to get the V600 working if we followed the manual's instructions (that menas to answer an incoming call, we push the answer button once). But if we pushed the answering button (on the steering wheel of course) continously (till a beep from the system was heard), then the operation was flawless. It seems that this is a "feature" of the interface.

How many times do you normally push until you hear the beep? I'll try anyting to keep the clam closed while driving...

I'm having the same problem with my Cingular v600 that I purchased on Saturday. The clam closed is causing problems. I did change the "Open to Answer" option to Off which I thought worked, but I was wrong!

Just an update guys. I just contacted AT&T and they agreed on replacing my device (after telling them that the phone freezes after "not working" with HFL (of course they had never heard what HFL is, but whatever...)). I expect the new phone to arrive in a couple of days...then I will try again and see if there is any improvement...

For everyone who is talking about / owns the Motorola V600...which version do you have? OEM / Cingular / At&t / T-Mobile? This will help shed light on the answers I may have.

For what it's worth - I have the V600 with ATT - Great phone - I started out with a T616 and found that it worked very well with the HFL but left a lot to be desired when I carried it around.
Anyway, I have the options on the phone set to what is described in this thread and overall the v600 works well..
Here is a summary..
1. No battery meter in the HFL display -(no big deal)
2. I can keep the cover closed - but to answer a call I must hold the HF
talk button until I hear the beep (rather than just tapping it like I did with
the T616.)
3. When checking my voice mail I hold the handset and key in pass-codes
etc. There seems to be an echo when I do this - that is I hear the key
tones from the phone and a second or so later hear the keytone on the
TL's speaker ( I probably need to just turn off the keytones on the
phone.)
The v600 is a terrific phone - it would be nice if the interface with the HFL was more like the T616.
Maybe new firmware (if that is the correct term) will help.
Thanks all!

I have auto answer set to "2 secs" and auto hands free set to "on". Seems to work fine with one exception. I must open the clam shell for it to sync up with the HFL initially. Then I shut it again and put it away.
Just got the phone yesterday, so I know I have lots to learn. I'm a cingular customer BTW.
Any comments?

Cingular V600. No issues, the sound quality is better than the my SE T616, the HFL is more stable, I don't have to wait 2 seconds to begin speaking when I answer the phone and it doesnt cause my secondary display to lock up and just display "Phone" when I get in the car. I gave the TE 616 to my other half as his 7 series doesnt have bluetooth...heck it is missing a lot of things the TL has!

I would like to know a few things from those of you who have a V600. If your having problems(calls being directed to the phone not the HFL) or not, what tricks (phone open, settings, holding talk button until it beeps) you are using and the results. Then let me know what the software revision is. To find the software revision - Menu-Settings-Phone Status-Other Information-S/W Version . It should say something staring with Triplets_G bla bla bla. I can give this information to Motorola Eng. for this problem that we are working on.Thanks a lot.

I am very new to the phone so I don't have any "tricks" yet.

I've tried everything mentioned in this post and the V600 still doesn't allow the HFL to work properly unless the clamshell is left open. With the clamshell closed, the HFL will answer the phone with the steering wheel button and then you have to say "transfer" to connect it to the HFL. Called the HFL folks and they say they are aware of the problem and are working with Motorola for a solution. Don't understand why some users of the 600 don't seem to have any problems.
