Using cassette line as an aux in for IPOD?
Many have discussed disconnecting the XM and using that input to connect an ipod-(but I have and use the XM)---why not use the cassette line as an aux in? I only use the cassette now with an adapter for the ipod. Please dont mention wireless transmitter.. I tried 2 of them and they sound like crap.

Thats not a bad idea, someone has to figure out how the input of the tape deck works, if its possible, I don't mind losing my tape functionality, I don't use it anyways

now here's an idea! why not somebody in here who's got some technical skills design a cassette adapter that's wireless. ive been thinking about this for quite some time now but im a technical idiot. it would have these features:
1. wireless - the cassette adapter transmits to a receiver that you connect to your ipod.
2. no batteries - the adapter will be powered by the motor that spins the tape. -- not even sure if its even possible to generate that kind of power at that spin rate. if its not possible, i think a AAA battery is small enough to fit inside a cassette tape.
just a thought!

my bad, it is not completely wireless. the wires for the cassette adapter are concealed inside the tape player. the guy routed the wire from inside and it came out the back of the player.

And don't forget... in order for this to work... the headunit needs to think you're playing a tape for it to actually activate the tape deck. So you'd have to somehow electronically trip the trigger that senses the tape in the deck and allows the sound to travel to the amp. So, though this seems cool, it'd be pretty challenging, I would think, to accomplish.

Aux input instead of tape doesn't sound very challenging. It may be easier than reusing sat radio inputs, which are balanced, and likely relatively high voltage. I could tell exactly what to do, if I could have a look at schematics for the tape deck. As for putting the unit in "Tape" mode- inserting a cassette adaptor (input cable can be removed) will do the trick. If the tape deck doesn't have sofisticated sensors, it can be fooled without an adaptor, just by shortening a switch or two.
