Updated navigation DVD
Still waiting for official updated navigation DVD which I am told will be this fall. Any alternatives? Can I go straight to Garmin or something and get a compatible DVD?

The NAV DVD is supplied by NavTeq, and has nothing to do with Garmin (who makes GPS hardware). In fact NavTeq supplies must NAV vendors with the mapping data.
To answer you're question, is no. Navteq usually updates their data once a year.

updates are also useless unless they specify updates to your area. I have been driving down a road that was created 7 years ago and has yet to make any of the navteq updates. You'll find the same issue with most GPS systems.

Have you ever bother to report any of the corrections to NavTeq?
I go on their web site and report corrections or new roads in my area on their web site all the time. I usually attach a JPG image from Google Maps or something and provide as much detail as I can to them. It usually take them about 4 months to do the research and reply to corrections you submit, but they do look at them.
