Unable to charge iPhone in 2006 TL

My iPhone 3GS (and iPhone 4S) display "Charging is not supported with this accessory" and won't charge when plugged into the car's native iPhone integration (the cable in the glove box).

I'm looking for simple integration only - no need to control device using the Nav display, or anything else. I just want to operate the iPhone from itself and have it charge.

Any ideas?

I get that once in a while. The software isn't compatible, just jack it in again. It ends up working, just not fully. It will charge.

Have you ever tried a female iPhone dock connector to 3.5mm audio jack cable, connecting the car's iPhone cable to the iPhone's audio jack? I want to try that but I bet it won't work.

i simple being one of the better ipod integration solutions is what always makes me want to put a aftermarket player in.
When I had an alpine monitor in my old car, the ipod integration was perfect.
