Is there a way to limit search radius on NAVI?

I have a 2006 NAV 6spd, and it seems that whenever I try to search lets say a Target store, the system comes back with Target stores that are on the opposite coast! I went through the setup screens and have not found any options to limit the radius of search. Also, the factory provided POI library sucks! Some major POI that have been in existence for decades are simply not on there.

places > category > shopping > dept. store > search by distance (2nd choice from top on Navi screen, after category name??)

Or: places > name > search by distance

the distance option @ right top corner is not highlighted. Man, this NAVi does not even have a Papa Johns pizza place in my town that has been there for at least 10 yrs...

The nav is not good if you want to use it as yellow phonebook. The database/POI mgmt sucks (F-) big time! It is, however, a decent (B-) equiipment if you want to go from points A to B using the address function.

In my area our Navi finds the business we are looking for about half the time. I guess that's the best you can hope for given that entire maps of the US plus whatever yellow pages stuff they can fit are all crammed onto one DVD.

What I do is use my Windows Smartphone (a Motorola Q) to supplement the Nav. I have Google Maps and Windows Live Search on my phone. When I find what I'm looking for, I can enter the address in the nav.

Not the most elegant solution but it works.

Please continue the discussion in this thread: NAVI system shows McDonalds at 2300 miles away!

Thanks.
