Is there option to show title of songs?

My "BMW Lover" roommate made fun of my TL's audio which doesn't show what is playing in the radio or cds.

My TL is non navi, do we have this option somewhere? I read the manual, and there is no mentioning of this feature.

Thanks.

Up to the 06 model has no tag or title support for media. What year is your car?

I have an 2008 wo/ navi and I honestly rarely listen to CDs in it but I'm pretty sure it doesn't displays track names (although it can read the artist/album field). What pisses me off more is that it only reads the track names when listening to an XM broadcast.

I can name off about 1 dozen GM models that display the FM radio track names dating back to 2001. Why the f*ck doesn't my 2008 Acura do this? I should say that I have friends who own either a 06 or 07 Honda Odyssey w/ nav and their radio also displays tags from XM broadcasts and doesn't display tags from FM broadcasts so it's clearly a Honda corporate thing... might be that XM and Honda agreed jointly not to do it so-as to create one more little reason to make that XM subscription look a little nicer. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Honda didn't receive some sort of royalty-fee per new XM subscription as a kickback from XM. These sort of agreements are common place.

I had a 2000 Avalon XLS and it had RDS (Radio Data System) which showed information about what was playing on FM but not CDs. It was nice but up until I got rid of that car in early 2004 the were few radio stations which provided much information. The TL is not equipped with RDS nor is it equipped with any technology to read this information off of CDs.

That's not actually true. The radio in the TL doesn't read RDS from an FM broadcast, but it does read CD Text. I took these in a parking garage that was pretty dimly lit so it was pretty dark in the car but you get the idea.

Basically, you just hit the "DISP/MODE" button to toggle between title, artist, and track name. After 1 second or so it displays the data as shown in the pictures below. It's kinda clunky really. I would actually expect more from Acura like a nice scrolling track name or something but it does display the data from a CD:

Darksky, thanks for the info. I just traded my 04 Navi TL for an 08 Type S on Thursday and I should have read the manual before I commented.

Haha! No, it's Lewis Black who does stand-up (pretty funny by the way). It's his 5th album recorded live at Carnegie Hall back in 2005. You can find a track listing at that link, the complete title of that particular track is, "Candy Corn-We Don't Know What We Are Doing Anymore."

You get even more info with MP3, depending how they are tagged. I think there are 4 or 5 or 6 Tags that it'll read, inlcuding Artist, Title, Album, etc.

You use the same button darksky pointed out to cycle through them.

(Obviously?) '07 and '08 only.

In my 08TLS it shows everything, and I love it, especially the ability to browse mp3 folders, this is a rare feature on most cars.

It's sort of odd really given the cheap cost of hand-held mp3 players such as the Sandisk Sansa (I got my wife one a while ago; 8 gigs for $150. They have double space now). You can load that thing up with digital music and enjoy the convenience of both aux in and power in the center console with the far better UI (in my opinion) of the Sansa.

Anyway, thanks for the info.

From what I've read on these posts, it's all in the CD, not your car. If the CD itself has that info imbedded into it, your car will display it. I've used many DVD Audio discs and was surprised that they too did not display any album or track information.

You can test this on a CDr if you have a CD writing program that supports CD Text. Just put any old wav file on there and give it a unique name, fill in the artist name too, but it and see. I'll bet you $20 it displays the info you put in there.

So, no ID for radio songs? Really?

Even my 03 Caravan does this!

Mines an 06 TL.

Can it be added?
