Good to hear, can't wait until mine comes in. I'm sick of having to connect that cable every time I want to use my phone for music.

I think I saw a review on Amazon saying it worked great with a Droid. I will be pairing it with my HTC Evo 3D and expecting good results...

Question about the BlackBerry Remote Stereo Bluetooth Gateway: Is this something you plug into the cigarette lighter and leave it, or do you have to have an AUX in to be able to use it?

If the latter, is there anything out there that doesn't require an aux in or re-wiring? Ideally, it'd be awesome if I could plug this thing into the cigarette lighter in my armrest and leave it in there, and just have my iPhone out, without requiring the use of aux in or iSimple or anything else.

It requires both you can say.. i have mine in my center armrest, with a cig adapter for power, and the aux wire is hooked up to the device, thus i never have to touch it again. once the car gets power, the device will automatically connect to my phone and i can just start playing music without any wires

Amazon has the Blackberry Gateway back in stock for $45. JUMP ON THIS because I don't think they make these any more. I'm ordering another as a backup.

Amazon Amazon

I've been using mine for about a week (just finished my install) and it's awesome. Turns on automatically and my phone connects to it automatically after I get in the car. I'm running my AUX cable to a BitOne in the trunk but you can run this to any other AUX interface. I'll see if I can snap a picture in a few.

I'm ordering one of these or something similar SOON.

Has anyone tried any of the alternatives? I know that you have to push the button on the Belkin every time, so it's out.

Monoprice has a unit and the reviews on it are really good. Not to mention, it's only $20. All the cables I've gotten and seen from them are nice, I may try this one and report back.

Oh %$#@%.... JUST before I ordered, I was trying to figure out what it's DC input was b/c I knew it only came A/C ready... well... w/o an inverter, it won't work in a car. I figured it had a brick converter to go a/d --> d/c like many home electronics, but NOPE.

I probably could have torn it apart and figured out what it needed, but... why?

okay, so let me see here. Why won't a simple 3.5mm male to male headphone jack work? Maybe im missing something?

In theory you plug a 3.5mm headphone jack into the phone then into the AUX and the phone should play through the cars speakers no? I've done it with other cars and we do it in my friends 2006 Ram all the time?

Does the black berry unit work with the androids? I just don't want to pay 160 dollars for XM when I can spend 36 dollars a year for pandora and hear what I want when I want.

Yes, that will work fine. This is a unit that you plug the aux cord into instead of your phone, and pair it up with your phone via bluetooth. So whenever you start your car and have your phone on you, it will automatically connect to your phone and you can just start playing music without any wires. So you don't have to keep plugging in and unplugging the phone from the cord, and essentially keeping your phone cordless.

04 TL with nav, I have an old iphone 3g that doesn't get used. I'll dedicate it as an audio device, my question is can I skip tracks by steering wheel or voice with the Blackberry gateway? I'm just going to use a tape to 3.5mm audio jack to old iphone 3g. It works ok but the lack of track skipping sucks. That's actually all I want track skipping forward/backward by steering wheel or console because looking at your phone to skip tracks is just too dangerous imo.

I doubt you can because you're just connected to an AUX input. I suggest you get an iPod connector for your car, that way you can change tracks by using the steering wheel controls.

It's a
charger from Sprint charger from Sprint
, but all you need is a charger with dual USB ports (like
this this
or
that that
) then you can get whatever cable you want for the BB unit and your phone. If you want to charge a tablet you'll need a higher output charger (2amps).

PS - you can get appropriately-sized micro and mini usb cables on monoprice.com

Bless your hearts everyone who recommended the blackberry bluetooth gateway!! Got it like $40 or so. Works perfectly, everyone thinks A2DP is built in my car since it is completely hidden away and i never have any need to touch it or muck with it 100% reliable.

Here is a tip if you get any problems with noise or fuzz -- just replace any 3.5mm audio cables you are running with ones that have ferrite cores on each end. I picked them up less than $2.50 ea.

Is this the one?

Any ideas where I can get this besides Sprint (I'm from Canada and need a place that will ship here).

I installed the unit, but my Blackberry will not charge with the USB charger I got (Belkin unit). Apparently most of these chargers won't work with the phones. I had an OEM Blackberry charger which worked great, but need the 2nd USB port for the gateway now!

Thanks!

Blackberry gateway uses older (original) usb cable....does not use newer micro-USB ones. I guess I should have looked more carefully as I got the wrong USB cable originally

And yes, monoprice.com is great - I order all my stereo and other cables from them (plus they ship to Canada)!

might be a dumb question... I have done many things to this car but audio is one area I have not touched yet.

Is the BB gateway option viable for a 2006 non navi version? what work would be involved?

In order to use the BB gateway it has to plug into an aux port. On the 06 TLs they do not have an aux port built in. That's where the iSimple installation come into play.

People do use the aux tape adapter but I doubt you can use that with the gateway.

I had tried something different than this, I believe it was posted on the first page; the tunelink potato thing.

It SUCKED! >_< It was wirelessly streaming the music via FM transmitter, I would have loved to use the aux port but I too have 06 TL. The music was 75% clear, static was audible.

Yeh with iSimple, you get the aux port in your car, then you can connect the BB Gateway. Once the gateway is on and paired with your phone you can stream and control your music from your phone wirelessly.

Only thing is iSimple isn't a real "simple" mod to do. There are threads about not having to remove your entire front console to do the wiring.

I have yet to really think about doing the iSimple mod but I'll probably have to pay someone to do the install.

I will be very interested to see how it works. I have the same problem...I cannot seem to find an ipod connection, so am thinking I will have to go to Bluetooth. Will it affect the phone system is one of my questions, please continue the thread.

So i spent some time looking at all the options and i do like the BB Gateway like most of you since it has out of sight out of mind thing...(i have an 07 TLS). I just have one question, and i think it was sort of covered in this thread but i want to confirm. The BB gateway will need a BB car charger? or From what i understand the "universal" mini USB car charger that most android phones use now won't work with it? that sucks! another downside would be that you can't use this thing anywhere u want can you? like a stereo in ur home?

The first post in this thread made by Xander12 is awful similar to BB Gateway but it sounds like it's made for "car and home". What happened with this Xander12?!!? he never posted again lol

Has anyone tried the KANEX?
Amazon Amazon

Yet?

It has everything the BB gateway has but it's 50bucks all the time ANDDDD it has a mini-USB charging system unlike the BB Gateway which from what i understand has the regular USB input for charging.

So which is the best to get?

I found both on amazon. The blackberry gateway is $130 and the newpotato tunelink is $75.

Elegant said the newpotato is better but more expensive, but obviously it is almost half the price of the blackberry gateway lol. I don't know which to get.

Edit: I just read in a previous post that to use the BB Gateway you need to plug it into an aux port. Since I don't have one or an isimple, it looks like that one won't even work for me.

I think I will pull the trigger on the newpotato tunelink. The FM transmitter better be a lot better than the one I bought 8 years ago lol.

TunelinkAuto or new potato one is 99 on the link provided in this thread...but i guess u found a cheaper one. The BB Gateway is 130 right now on amazon but it always drops down to aprox 45 bucks-50 every now and then. Not sure why this is. so you COULD wait...but since you don't have AUX new potato might be your best option. I don't know if i would want to spend that much money and tune through FM, i remember all the other tuners i've used in the past through FM weren't great sound quality wise. Has anyone here used it?
