Stock sub bottoming out .... fixed
First of, I'm no car audio freak so the whole stock setup is fine by me.
I have an 04 TL and lately I've had issues with the stock sub bottoming out.
I thought I'd check it out maybe the cone has a crack or I just simply need to replace it.
I took the back seat out (the most painful part of the whole inspection process).
I inspected the sub and the L R speakers and they looked "visually" fine.
I noticed that the screws on the speakers are a little loose so I proceeded in tightening them up.
Turned on the CD and fired up the volume. Hmmm it made a difference.
I've put everything back together, moldings, back cover and the seats.
That seemed to have fixed the issue. I can crank up the volume now and no bottoming out.
I hope this helps some who doesn't want to replace their OEM speakers.

Yes. I guess due to age and lots of bass thumping the screw has gotten loose in time.
In the last few months when I play music with deep bass... it sounds like brrrrt ...brrrrt ... brrrrrt .... funny like it's farting. That's why I thought I need new subs.
If I was to guess what was happening is that the whole speaker is vibrating against the metal it was attached to.
If you want to do a little better than what I did, you can probably put a dynamat in that whole area. But like I said I'm no audio freak so by tightening the screws fixed my bottoming out issue.
I don't play music louder than volume 14 anyway. That's with the sub setting at max.
