Angry Springsteen Album won't play DVD-A

I just got the new Springsteen dual disc album but it won't play on the DVD-A side, only on the CD side.

Has anyone else had this problem and is there a workaround?

Sorry, the springsteen album dual disc is DVD-Video on the DVD side, not DVD-A. If you look at the logo on the dual disc, it's not DVD-Audio. It probably says Dolby digital. That side won't work in the TL. You really have to read the lables when buying dual discs. some have DVD-A, some have DVD-V

What Is On A DualDisc?

One side is the full-length CD audio album. The other side offers DVD content. This may include enhanced album audio, 5.1 surround sound, music videos, artist interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, documentary films, photo galleries, lyrics, computer-ready digital song files, and Web links. It all depends on the artist.

Read the back of the box carefully. It might and might not include the full album in 5.1 as state above. I copied this from their website.

Even if it says it's in 5.1 surround, it still may be in DVD-Video mode, rather than DVD-Audio. The key is to find the DVD-audio marking on it.

If it's from Sony, IT WILL NOT PLAY IN THE TL. No exceptions.

Sony does not do DVD-A!

Gotta love Sony!! They never use a format that they didn't create. For the longest time they ignored MP3 (i.e. no capabilties to play the format on ANY Sony product). They thought it would be a short lived format and that it would not be widely adopted.........hope the Jagazz that thought that got fired!

In all fairness they are getting better. They do now support MP3, and in addition are trying to bridge the gap between HD DVD, and Blu Ray so as not to have 2 competing formats.

They really dropped the ball with beta, and SACD, so I sure hope they get this right as it will effect the entire industry!

I ordered the Springsteen album on LP and am just gonna record it to CD over the weekend. How is the video content? I'm not particularly interested in DualDisc since it won't sound as good as the LP, but if the video is any good I might spring for it at some point. (The important thing right now is to give the music a few listens so I'm familiar with it in time for the concert in two weeks!)

Yah I heard of that Blu-ray HD-DVD battle. I hope they go blue ray(I love those attached sleeves, plus the disks hold slightly more data). Back to Betamax Vs. VHS. LPs are supposed to have awsome quality the first time they are played, am I correct?

LPs sound good for a good long time if you have a decent turntable. I have some old ones my father bought in the 1960s that blow away the CDs of the same albums, and they're not exactly unplayed LPs either.

The thing with vinyl is that you are only getting an advantage if the album was originally recorded in an analog format. With modern CD's, they are mostly recorded in digital formats, so there really is no sonic difference between the CD and the vinyl. You are just down-converting the digital signal into an analog one.

The DualDisc was brought up in a previous thread and it was mentioned the disc will not play in the TL because it was DVD-V .......

The videos on the DVD are pretty worthless. Just Bruce sitting and playing the songs. Nothing very interesting and certainly not watching more than once.
