My source of information was system interconnect diagram from TL service manual. According to it, Navi has a mono audio output, which is connected to the audio headunit. Quite possible that audio chip inside the navi can output stereo, but to get the second channel in the audio system will require hardware modifications too complicated for vast majority of people. On the other side, some people will be happy with mono sound. I myself could live with it when listening to audiobooks.
I just hope you will be able to brake the software. I know that this is far from trivial, so I just keep my fingers crossed.

do a check of the system by holding down the 3 buttons , go to version and hit menu.

Note the file its loading , its probably currently the honda file that you used . Not the bnhh401a file

your car thinks its a honda
so on your MOD disc if you did a one to one swap of the honda and acura file. by USING THE MOD DISC not the original disc, loading it it will load the honda file, which is really the acura.
now it thinks an acura and will look for the proper bnhh401a file

then you can but the original dvd back.

you didnt read my prior post carefully

I`ve taken BN2HH12C.BIN (2004 Acura TL) and renamed it BN2HN18B.BIN (2004 Acura TSX), then vice-versa, renamed BN2HN18B.BIN (2004 Acura TSX) to BN2HH12C.BIN (2004 Acura TL)... then used the DUMPNAVI program to change the backround.bmp of the NEW, BN2HH12C.BIN (actually the TSX.BIN)...

Everything took great, just like I was only changing the startup backround image, still ACURA, only now I have the TRIP COMPUTER... I was hoping that since I changed over to the TSX.BIN, the DUMPNAVI would allow me to modify the nag screen, but no such luck... I guess i`ll take what I can get...

I've been following this thread like it was a 1950s potboiler. Its got all the thrills and drama of a best seller.

At some point will one of you l33t h@x0rs outline the process for us poor old n00bs? What you're doing is truly remarkable and I'd love to do it too but haven't a clue where or how to start.

I'm sure there are other lurkers who share my hope and would be greatly appreciative of the guidance.

TIA

I think you got it now. If you simply invert the two files your file for the one you are subsitituting for. You can use the MOD disk to go back and forth between the two mods.

each time it looks to the opposing file for instructions

bnhh401a.bin <---> bnhn404a.bin

reloading each time switches it back and forth, ( WITH YOUR MODDED DISK INSIDE ONLY)

Here's another tidbit: The "Info" button, which has the calculator and calendar is also supposed to show the Trip computer. From the looks of things it's ready to go but it's deactivated. By this I mean it looks like all the .exe files have "Trip computer" on the info menu but none of them actually show it, thus it must be deactivated on purpose.

Someone please do a how to

SSM6MTNAVI May 15, 2005 12:01 PM

Just been reading this thread.... the anxiety is killing me. No one here can post a how to?

tizo May 15, 2005 12:01 PM

1. Open your trunk and find the DVD player attached to
the navigation system.

2. Push down the front plate and eject the Navigation
DVD-ROM.

3. Place the DVD in your computer and copy all 9 BIN
files onto your hard drive, this includes:

***notice the BN2HH12C.BIN (Acura TL Nav file) is 13,322 KB and both the
BN2HH120.BIN (Honda Accord Nav file) and BN2HN18B.BIN (Acura TSX Nav file)
are 13,352 KB... this would explain why the Accord and Tsx have the A/C
Controls Display and Trip Meter.

---Since the TL Nav will only load the BN2HH12C.BIN, the TSX Nav file will have
to be renamed BN2HH12C.BIN and the TL Nav file renamed to the TSX file.

4. Right-click BN2HN18B.BIN and rename the file 001.BIN (or any other name
besides one that is on the disk), this is important for swapping file names.

5. Right-click BN2HH12C.BIN and rename it, BN2HN18B.BIN

6. Vice-versa, rename 001.BIN (previously the BN2HN18B.BIN) to BN2HH12C.BIN

7. Copy all BIN files (9 in total) to a blank CD or DVD.

8. Insert the original navigation DVD back into the
DVD-ROM in your car.

9. Start the car normally, and at the main navigation
screen hold Map/Guide, Menu, and Cancel for 5
seconds once again.

10. Hit the "Version" button on the touch screen once
again.

11. Take the origional navigation DVD out of the car,
and replace it with the CD/DVD you just created.

12. Hit the "DISK LOAD" button on the Version screen,
then run back and close the front plate on the
DVD drive.

13. It should take about 20 seconds for your car to
load the new BIN and reboot.

14. Once that happens, take out your burned CD/DVD and put back the
original navigation DVD.

tizo May 15, 2005 12:06 PM

the TSX.BIN file was used, opposed to the Accord.BIN, in order to maintain the ACURA splash screen on startup... If you want the HONDA splash, feel free to replace the TL.BIN with the Accord.BIN...

TerminaderTL May 15, 2005 12:16 PM

Thanks!

Thanks a lot for the step-by-step guide.

If I needed to restore back to "factory settings" would I just reload the TL file or does the battery need to be disconnected so the system will cold boot?

iTISTIC May 15, 2005 12:22 PM

Do you lose any features by using the TSX's BIN instead of the TL's BIN? I see you gain the trip computer and climate control status display, but is anything lost? You would think that there are some things in the TL's BIN that aren't in the TSX's right?

dman918 May 15, 2005 12:23 PM

Are there any drawbacks to this? Does everything else work as it should and whatnot?

SSM6MTNAVI May 15, 2005 12:47 PM

Per my understanding of this, we cannot have a customized backgroud screen as well as the climate control and trip computer screen in this whole package. Its one or the other - right ?

iTISTIC May 15, 2005 12:49 PM

You should be able to do it all. Theoretically you are just using the TSX's BIN file. You can customize that file the same as the TSX owners do. Am I right?

DMZ May 15, 2005 12:50 PM

When http://=https://acurazine.com/forums...d.php?t=112576 happened to me, I lost the Subwoofer and Center audio adjustments that you see when you press the on-screen [SOUND] button and some of the voice functions didn't work either, I don't recall which ones. Additionally, the clock on the display above the Nav screen wouldn't adjust itself for daylight savings time either despite the clock you see when you enter Nav diagnostics showing the correct time. In other words, I had theeee Honda Accord Nav system in my TL. The dealer wound up reloading the original TL system.

If this adds the trip computer WITHOUT messing anything else up whatsoever, I'll definitely do it!
Please advise ASAP tizo !!!

Thanks for the write up, Can you tell us what is lost by doing this?

dman918 May 15, 2005 01:44 PM

Yeah, I wouldn't want to lose anything. Someone with this installed please let us know what this takes away, if anything.

... and yes, center speaker adjustment is missing... along with the subwoofer adjustment... the change hasn`t affected my sound quality, but to some... maybe...

you`ll have to give and take... and choose for yourself, it`s just as easy to reverse the change...

iTISTIC May 15, 2005 02:54 PM

Somebody's going to figure out how we can mix and match features from the different BINs. It's only a matter of time (hopefully). I, personally, would not want to lose either sound adjustments. I'm very picky about sound quality, and am constantly adjusting the Subwoofer adjustment on different CDs, radio stations, etc. Not so much the center channel, though. Never adjusted it much before, but now that I put in my aftermarket amp/subs it's a must.

rescueswimmer May 15, 2005 04:59 PM

just a little fyi.

When you change the bin file and end up with the trip computer. You lose some of the voice commands. Im not exactly sure but some are diffrent. As far as loosing your ability to choose the sub woofer and center speeker you cant do this from the nav screen. You still can change it by pushing the right silver wheel. and using the upper display to do your adjustments.

Im curious did the TL navi have the 1/2 grey dotted bar at the bottom and give you the road names all the time. I have the bar now and dont remember it being there before.

I wasnt to impressed with the trip computer Im probably going to switch back to the tl disc.

Yes, that transparent grayish bar on the bottom of the screen that shows the street names has always been there.

rescueswimmer May 15, 2005 06:20 PM

thanks. I just reverted back to the acura version and noticed it. Also there are some A/C commands that are diffrent. as well as dvd disc commands.

Question About The Trip Computer...

how does the trip computer calculate instantaneous MPG???

My question is does the Trip Computer think that the car IM driving is a TSX? (I have the trip cpu in the TL now). Like when i floor it does it think im flooring an inline 4 or 6 cylinder engine.

iTISTIC May 15, 2005 07:26 PM

I'm sure the trip computer doesn't compute MPG based upon how you drive the car. I would assume it calculates the gallons of gas used per driven mile. The only problem could be if the tank in the TL is a different size than that of the TSX, in which case it may think it's using more or less than it really is.

rbf351 May 15, 2005 08:24 PM

the only thing i find on mine is that the climate control display doesn't work right, except for the temp numbers everytime i push a boutton the naiv screen says climate control off eventhough it's atually on

J RIDE 81 May 15, 2005 09:36 PM

hit the auto button and see what it says then. Mine said off untill i hit the auto button.

I dont know how accurate the instanatious meter is. The other info is right on with the MID. The instantanious when I was cruising on the highway said i was getting 35-45mpg. but the actual number on the MID was about 32 but its something neat to distract you and make you crash.

haha those were my thoughts exactly when i was driving and looking at the Instant MPG... i would step on it and watch the MPG drop and if you just coast the MPG goes up to 50. still pretty neat tho... althought i dont think its very accurate because it stayed like 30mpg+ the entire drive and it still only said like 20 mpg on the mid. :(

Tuetatesu May 16, 2005 12:10 AM

The climate control looks like it's blocking your compass. Does it go away like the audio display does after awhile? OR does it stay up?
