Satellite Radio Install (Sirius)

How do you install the satellite antenna on the roof without it looking gawdy? This would be aftermarket satellite radio. I live in Canada and I actually also like Sirius a lot more than XM because they carry NFL and NBA. Was thinking of putting receiver on the driver side to avoid wire complications. Any suggestions for receiver placement?

Here's how I got SIRIUS into my TL.

I use the SONY cassette adapter, the one from MonsterCable was noisy!
My antenna sits on top of the dash inside the car twards the front of the windsheild.
Run the wire from the JVC over the steering column but under the dash around to the left side of the car and up to the dash.
I ran the power around the side of the center console to the aux 12V jack in
the back of the center column. The mounting bracket I got from Best Buy - just
put two screws into the side of the center column.

It was fast, easy and cheap. And, once you've tried SIRIUS, You'll never
go back to FM again, or XM for that matter. It is that good.

A pic of my install.

Thanks for the help!

Does the antenna get equal quality reception mounted on the dash?

How come you don't use the FM modulator feature, does the tape adaptor provide much better quality?

So you drilled into the center column to mount the docking station?

Thanks again!

PS. Wish the display was blue!

I have had no problems with the reception. The antenna is held in
place with some 3M mounting squares.

You will get much better audio quality with the SONY cassette
adapter. I was never happy with the audio quality of the FM modulator.
Too much interfearance and static.

I used the two self-taping screws that came with the mounting bracket.
Yeh, I just screwed them into the side of the center console.

It would be nice if the diplay was blue, but let me tell you, once you
have SIRIUS, you wouldn't care what color the diplay is. The programing on SIRIUS is so much better than XM. I tried XM for 3 months when I got the car. My first impression with XM was - Wow! All these choices and no commercials! But after a few weeks I was unimpressed. I just let the subscription run out. A friend of mine turned me on to SIRIUS and it's
been no lookin' back!

Good luck with the install.

Yauser you can run RCA’s into the head unit if you wanted to. I’m not sure if you’ve seen the write-ups on that but we have a free spot where the XM is in the US models. That’s what I did for my PS2 and aux input.

Dear Canadian Mike,

can you share the Auxiliary Input Adapter Make and Model you used for your PS2 & Aux Input.

I have an MP3 player(Not an Ipod) and want to have a direct connection instead of the dreaded FM transmitter.

Best regards from Montreal

This is the one I used. Get the one for non-navi thats the one you want. You do have to add a switch to the yellow wire on it. Zax123 figured this out. He's from Montreal. He helped me out when I did this.

I don't have Navi on my TL, so this won't work?

Yauser I think this will still work for you. It doesn't have anything to do with the navi the input is on the stereo you push DVD/CD and it will switch to C-CD mode. As long as the US models with out Navi have XM then this should work. I believe we all have the same radio head unit.

Can any of our American Friends answer that?

Thanks Canadian Mike.

Hopefully I'll have the time over the weekend to get the exact model number of the audio unit in our Canadian Non-Navi TL and request the service manuals from Panasonic.

Best regards

I'm actually not planning on doing anything too invasive to get this setup.

I've read elsewhere that it is possible to improve the quality of the FM modulator by attaching an amplifying wire to the "FM out" port. Anybody try this?

What frequencies does the new JVC unit use for the modulator?

Finally, would mounting the receiver on the windshield on the left side of the driver interfere with the side curtain? I was thinking of putting it there with antenna on dash and power to the fusebox.

Thanks for the help

Dear Yauser,

A FM amplifier will improve signal strenght only.

There is no easy way to improve FM Radio quality beyond the specifications set by the standard (Frequency Response of 50HZ to 15,000HZ) as opposed to a CD which has a frequency response of 20Hz to 20,000HZ.

THis is the reason why most people are making the modifications to have an Auxiliary input on the TL Radio.

Best regards

This link seems to be broken now =(

I'm looking at getting a 2005 TL w/Navi in Toronto but it seems the Radio makes no mention of XM? Does that mean it probably doesn't have an external input? Or it's just disabled somehow?

Here is the New Link
You can't get XM radio in Canada yet. You can get aftermarket if you want and then you can use this or anything else. You will have a free input back there because we don't have XM.

Hope this helps

Has anyone used this autotoys aux adapter w/ navi & been successful? I've read other posts where people have had problems with it. I'd really like to avoid using an FM Modulator at all costs.
