Cool re: How do I get traffic on my navigation for my 2006 TL

hello fellow TL!!

hey I was wondering if anyone knows how to get traffic on my 2006 TL?

Do I just get a upgrade disc? Or do I need to subscribe to XM??

Is there anything free out there or anything hacked to get free traffic on the nav?

Many thanks in advance!!!

Hi and welcome to the forums. You will find a wealth of info here. I suggest you search the next time before posting to see if the topic has been covered. Since you are new here, i'll answer your question:

Navi traffic can be added to your tl, but for a big price. It would cost about 5-6K to do since you would need to replace the entire navigation system from one from a 2007+ TL.

^Yikes! Looks like you're better off trading in for an 07-08 TL man... Good luck.

I haven't seen anyone who has done a conversion including nav-traffic, there is one person who was able to connect an 07 DVD unit to an 06 display. There is apparently a problem with the clock if you don't use the 07+ sub-display, but everything else works.

They mentioned that there an additional connector that everyone assumes is for nav-traffic and the other assumption is that a new xm receiver will be needed.

As with any of these conversions, if you've already got navi, it could be as easy as finding the parts used and then figuring out the connections in the trunk. If you have a non-navi TL, then it is much harder, but definitely possible.

I did the later for about $1200 which included buying a bunch of used stuff that was damaged thinking I was going carputer. If my original plan was to go factory navi, it would have cost me less that $600. Patience is the key. Keep searching ebay and craigslist, good deals eventually surface.

Let me be very honest. XM Navtraffic is not worth it, as it is useless. I had it, I've cancelled it...

If Navi would reroute you based on traffic then this would be a great mod...but it doesn't, it just tells you the average speed and reason for traffic... Very helpful...not. When you see cars in front of you braking, or while you are already going 5mph, I think you already know that you are in traffic

Damnit! I thought that it DID this. You totally ruined my dreams (I have an '05) but I appreciate you saving me the $ for upgrade in vehicle and the energy expended feeling jealous of '07+ TLs...

Thanks to all that reply. I am disappointed that this system can't be hacked somehow to get free traffic. While there are many other things out there that is already hack such as the start up screen on the nav.

I agree with all of the above posters. This is not worth the $6.95 a month if you already have the hardware. Spending whatever it would cost to update your Navi would be tantamount to taking hundred dollar bills out of your pocket and setting them on fire.

Often, the data is old and unreliable. Many other times, the opposite is the case; an accident will occur or traffic will backup and the data is update too late to be of any use. I cancelled this after my trial.

Lol, wow. Very helpful tip for people (me) who considered a diy conversion to this feature.

I had an 08 Altima with nav traffic and it did not work very well either. I live in Vegas and would be going 5 mph going by the strip and it would not say anything. Or there would be an accident displayed on there and when I got to it nothing again.

Good idea, but not fully realized yet imho. I was hoping the TL's Navtraffic would be better but apparently not...
