RADIO reset every time I start the car up

got an 04 TL, has an aftermarket basic radio with cd, everytime I start the car up I have to find the cd so it’ll play and all the presets are gone and it’s back to factory crap ! Anyone know what may be the issue? It’s always done this since I bought the car from previous owner...

no, no one knows the issue, because we cant inspect the radio.
if the previous owner did it; he would be the one to talk to..
or you can take apart the headunit to investigate why...perhaps there's a short...?
perhaps the battery terminals are corroded??
there's too many possibilities without actually troubleshooting and inspecting and diagnosing.

im not great with electrical diag lol, but yeah the positive tower on the battery was corroded clesned it all up, battery usually is dead after sitting for a few days, believe I’ll need a new one soon due to this colder weather! I was wondering if any guys who are good with electrics would know to check certain things first, cause It’s just annoying after awhile,

fix the battery and the terminals first. if the battery is bad and the terminals are corroded still...that could be your problem

I would have the mods move this to a 3rd gen forum for better answers.

1.) Clean terminals and clamps
2.) Confirm if dead battery situation is resolved
3.) If #2 not resolved, confirm if HFL has been removed from vehicle (most common cause of unexpected battery drain)
4.) Confirm if HU is behaving better
5.) If #4 not resolved, you will need to pull out the headunit to confirm how it is wired up
- is has been almost 20 years since I have done car audio...so bear with me if any of my info is dated
- there should be 2-3 power sources feeding the headunit
- one provides switched power that is only live when the ACC or IGN is on (this is usually the primary power feed)
- one provides constant power that is always live (this is the one that usually drives the clock and memory storage)
- sometimes there is another one that is related to illumination (changes lighting if the dash lighting is on or not)

thabks foe the reply, I’ll try these, I’ve already tried the hfl a few weeks ago and the battery car would be dead after I disconnected the hfl after 7days or so and with the hfl hooked up the battery would die around 3/4days, cause I thought that might have been draining my battery, I mean the car lights and everything will work unlock and lock the car and everything but when you go to start the car it’ll click and then nothing which I believe is a bad battery.. I’ll sort it out first then get back

Sounds like some sort of other parasitic draw you'll need to figure out. Or just a really old battery that is no longer holding as well of a charge.

Could be the battery, was dying if I left the car siting for nearly a week it’s need charged up to start the car, but everything else would work, now it’s gettibg cold it’s gotten a lot worse when starting the car, but I would t honk that’s be the cause of the damn radio always going back to factory stuff the car has some cables for a speaker box in the trunk that I’ll probably need to remove since I don’t use any of that audio crap, I honestly wanna out the car back to stock radio and nav instead of aem radio and that base model screen

Does anyone know much about batteries? Would a battery for the likes of a boat or rv work? Guy I know had one laying around he used for starting lawnmower tractors and boats.. it’s a car battery size 🤔

Why don't you just get a new one at Autozone, Oreilly etc.. Should be no more than $100

The other batteries may not have the proper amperage rating and then what sort of test would that accomplish?

So just live with your radio resetting every day until Xmas time then You can always keep your car on a battery tender overnight to keep it from discharging

yeah I’m just curious if anyone had any input on what to check for the radio! I’m not to worried about it cause it’s just a radio, I’ll figure something out, I figured my bud had a new battery he used for race cars and all I could’ve borrowed that for awhile until I got a new battery and see what happens.. but I ain’t knowledgeable about batteries and all that crap so

These cars severely punish batteries and the car will do wacky stuff with an iffy battery. The radio natural requires reset when you disconnect the battery. Perhaps when you try and crank it with that crappy battery there prolly isnt enough juice for the starter and everything else so the radio starves and believes the battery has been disconnected and asks to be reset.
Get one at Costco and take it back every couple years for a new one.

That is so wrong. It just eventually drives up the price for everyone else. It’s almost stealing.

If I start having a slow crank situation or electrical glitches after 2 years I absolutely will go and exchange batteries at Costco. it is under warrant. which you paid for in the purchase price.

That’s not what you said before. You made it seem like you automatically go every 2 years and get a new battery.

Yeah its not automatic at all, only if battery shows sign of weakness. You would really hate my return of a 6 year old bbq then.

head unit? What’s that... I was thinking maybe it need a fuse or something or a wire in the back isn’t in right for the “memory/ storage” of the radio but idk
