Radio cover

Hi all,

Can somebody chime in on how to remove the radio front cover off? I've gone as far as getting the bottom part and both sides out, but I couldn't get the top part off. Top side is VERY tight and I don't want to break it. The cover is just clip on on all four sides. Maybe there's another way to take the top side off??

I want confirm this from any acurazinian before I continue.

Thanks!

There are screws underneath the trim covering. Move it aside and you will see them.

As I recall, there were screws top & bottom. I had to remove a fabric type covering to get to them. Here is a pic:

Yup. Item C on this diagram. If you go LED, use red or white #74 type bulb.

thanks! do you know if there's any filter inside the shifter cover? i'm not sure if changing one bulb will make much of a difference in brightness and it might even turn worst....

I'd like to put one LED behind each letter if possible.

Not sure, as I have yet to tear it apart to replace. All of the other bulbs have the blue "condoms" to cast the greenish glow (blue + yellow=green).
You might be able to put a separate LED behind each window, but that would be crazy bright, IMO.
There is a series of articles in the 3G Garage detailing what I and other members have done with LEDs. Search for the DIY series by DeathMetal for lots of info. Here is a taste:

Dave,
I took the two knobs off the radio a while back and I've noticed that they don't have the OEM "feel" as before when you push them in now. It has this clicking noise when you push them in unlike before.

Any suggestion?

You mean when you turn the radio off (volume) or try to adjust the sound (tune)? Explain a bit more please.

yes, when you turn the radio on or off. no problem turning the knobs, just pushing the knobs in have clicking noise now unlike the OEM feel before (no clicking noise).
i think the knobs are just now sitting in the right position. maybe a bit more pushed in and the end of the knob is hitting the white plastic piece behind it. but how to adjust them to sit properly?

Not sure about that one. Mine went back together fine. I do have to remove it again to install the LED board---I plan on getting to that in the next month or so and will let you know.
In the meantime, you can PM Dan (DeathMetal) or madsiick to see if they have any input. I know both of them have had their radio faces off in the past.
