Possibility of adding Navi to Non-Navi?

I bought a WDP on Ebony TL not too long ago...only problem was, it was non-navi Unfortunately, it was the only white on black on the lot.

I was wondering if the STOCK navi system can be added to the car? Please let me know if it's possible, I'd like to get it done ASAP!

It wasn't too much trouble for me. The hardest thing was locating the proper parts for a reasonable price. I did it all for around $2000. That is what you would pay from the dealer had it been purchased as an option. Actually now that I have sold some of my non-navi parts, so you can take $275 off of the $2000 I originally spent. The only thing is, I now have to warranty anything that goes wrong with it and I knew that getting into the project. I haven't had any problems with the install so far. I didn't trade in because I had already started modding when I realized I really wanted the navi. If you have an 06 and haven't started to mod, I would say trade it in and get one with navi. If you have started to mod, go for it!

You said it was the only one on the lot........did you only go to one car lot? I'm pretty sure I would have shopped it till I found what a want. I hope you are not going to do this install yourself.....ru?

Well I had alot of friends that work at Rosenthal Acura, and pretty much got the hookups on the car itself...

In regards to installing it by myself, that's a big time negative, those pics scare me...

I'm in the same boat as Ninja. Purchased a non-navi '06 in January, have 7,000 miles on it but very much regret not getting the navi. What would you all recommend? Go the route as dan and have it custom installed for around $2,000 but have no warranty..... or trade in a 6 month old car, probably take a $5,000 depreciation hit and pay the additional $2,000 for the navi mod and get a new '06 with navi?

^Man if you think about it, that's 7000 out of your pockets, honestly, it's not worth it dude. Sit on it till the end of '07 and get the new body I've decided on doing that myself. Saves alot of hastle.

I was thinking the same thing. You're right, at the end of the day that's $7 G's for a navi system which is worth $2 G's. With that kind of money I could mod the exterior plus have money left over for a custom navi/dvd job. I have the portable Magellan Roadmate nav system which my work gave me....sucks to suction cup it to my windshield each time I need it, but it does the job for now. I'm going to give the place in Atlanta a call that did Dan...k's sweet conversion. If the price is reasonable I can always go that route. Regardless,....I still love the car.

if you guys wait a little bit, more of these cars will appear in salvage lots, kaing the parts alot cheaper. I was able to source all the parts for the Gen @ navi retro for about $600, and thats including a new dash panel and hazard switch from the dealer. everything is in brand new condition as well.

As Ninja says, don't mess with the car since it's a PITB to retrofit, and wait for next year to trade in to minimize a depreciation hit.
In the meantime, you can both get an aftermarket unit, like a Garmin 530c (??) that someone mentioned in this forum in the last month. You will get Bluetooth, maps, a bunch of other features, some of which might be better than the TL's factory Navi. The factory Navi does look neat and is great to have, but I haven't done any financial analysis of Navi vs. non-Navi with aftermarket GPS system.

For a more permanent mount, check eBay for floor mount. Its more hidden and is more legal than the windowshield suction cup mount in some states. My gf uses this floor mount after the suction cup fried in the CA sun.

Thanks for the info. on the floor mount GPS. Didn't know that was available as an option. Will look into it purchasing that. Can't stand those windshield suction mounts. I purchased the Sirius Starmate satellite radio purposely because it fits so perfectly into the lower storage compartment w/out the use of suction. Been hearing good things about some of the portable units. I heard Novogo just came out with an impressive portable GPS which operates fully on voice commands a la the TL factory unit for about $550. Sure it doesn't look as "cool" as the factory unit built into the dash but probably the next best option.
