Pioneer Avic Z-1 or Z-2

Has anyone installed a Pioneer Avic Z-1 or Z-2 in their TL?

I’ve done a search and read some nice articles on other installs (carputer, CarPc, xenarc etc.) but I really need to determine if it’s even feasible before I make an attempt at getting it done. I currently have this unit in my Toyota 4-Runner and with gas prices my truck is no longer my daily driver so I am considering removing that unit and placing it in my TL instead.

If anyone has done this please point me to the thread or if you know if a good car audio/visual shop in the Northern Virginia area I would love a recommendation. I don’t want to use the contractor the dealership used to put the unit in the truck because they did sh*tty work initially and I had to go back and forth with them over a period of about a month.

Why Z1 or Z2, when Z3 is already out. Just installed a Z3 on my TL, just go to any place that specializes in car audios/alarms.

I currently have this unit in another vehcle and plan to take it out and install it in teh TL.

Did you have your Z-3 installed where the radio currently is or in another location?

Yep, replaced the factory radio with the Z3 + custom dash cover.

Hello Mb,

Is it possible to upload a picture of the final installation. Curious to see how it looks.

Here is one that they did, but it's a Avic D3 on a 04 TL-s.
They removed the metal strips & patched/filled in the half circles & sanded & painted to match the color of the center console. Also did a custom face/dash cover for the Avic D3.

filled half circle:

I don't understand where these half-circles are? It almost looks like the trim, but that cannot be the case. Is that inside the dash? I haven't taken mine apart *yet* but that will happen in about a week. I'm trying to figure out a way to inconspicuously add some additional controls to my dash board. I want to keep the clean look. This install looks amazing!

^ The half circles are from the Volume and Tuner knobs on the stock radio.

U welcome. That wasn't my car & I'll upload my later. I chose to keep the metal trims, therefore I am stuck with the half circles.

Here is mine, not as clean as above. But I can still mod the trim pieces as above later or find some accent pieces for those two half circle locations..this is what I was hoping for....

Thanks, all from Pioneer...bluetooth, ipod, usb, rear camera. Oh, except for the steering wheel interface, it's aftermarket & programmable...it allows you to use those buttons on the steering wheel to control "mode" & "channel +/-" again.

Pioneer AVIC Install

Both installs look great. I guess its not possible to install that type of unit in the console where the temparture/CD dispalys are. I'm torn because I wouldn't want to have the semi-circles from where the stock radio is. I'll show what ever installer I find the pics and hope they can come up with an installation that will make me happy and still have my vehicle interior looking good.

Thanks for sharing.

I see that you have a 04TL, if you do a search...you'll find that some DO put that temp/LCD display on the bottom (where those two storage bins are), just need to extend the cables. Than you CAN mount the Avic up there where that LCD display is now...

Also I was told, it is possible to rewrap those two trim pieces to completely eliminate those half circles & it'll look just like factory.....but it'll be close to $1K.

Wish someone will make this a "group buy"....$200 for both pieces...

moving the temp/cd display is not a problem

only problem is that the avic unit is too long to have in the lcd area
