Noob question about HID's....

Im planning on doing some cosmetic mods to my headlight in the near future. While they were apart im going to go ahead and swap out to the replica lens but heres where im on the fence.

I want more light output, but it was recomended to me by a very knowledgeable member to stick with the stock ballast over the 50w set up.

I really want to go with a 5k bulb to have slightly more blue along with more light output. Has anyone did the 50w set up? I would love to hear some opinions and possibly some before & after pics.

Thanks in advance.

If you are going to do a 50W setup and are aiming for the 5000K color range.. then make sure to supply those ballasts with a bulb rated at 6000K. The higher wattage washes out the Kelvin rating on the bulbs by 1 degree.

You would definitely get more light out put with 50W ballasts but I don't know and also doubt the longterm reliability on 50W ballasts. Im only advocate for OEM ballasts. Don't care what brand they are, as long as they are OEM.

Yea ive read about the color change when going to 50w, but I was going to get them from TRS which have "50w bulbs". Do you think the these bulbs are already rated to compensate for the expected lower kelvin output?

Also do you know of any OEM 50w ballast on the morket?

No! I have bought the 4300k with the 50w ballast and they are yellow... I just changed the bulbs to 5000k and I would say that it really white and not ricey at all. Brighter than 4300k on 50w. You should add those lens also

I wouldn't recommend the 50w set up. More wattage does mean more power, but it will also cause more heat, burning up your lens. I liked the more blue feel too, so I got 8k going through a lens it comes out perfectly like 6k. They are $17 bucks on eBay.

I didn't have any overheat problem as of now on 2 of my cars using 50w ballast. Matt from TRS is so nice to deal with that eBay was never an option for my lights setups

No, I have not but to fit the replacement ballast at the oem location needs some cutting through plastic but can be done easily with novice skills, flexible silicone will be your friend to water seal your artwork Washer/spacer for the bulb will give better closer light output also. TRS have them for sale also.
