New Kicker Stock Sub Replacement

New Kicker Stock Sub Replacement
Hey guys,
I was just wondering if the new Kicker 8 inch COMP VT shallow sub will work well in our stock sub placement. I'm looking for bass that's better then stock, but nothing too crazy. And I'm not sure if it's a free-air sub or not, but I know it's supposed to be shallow for tight fits. Oh btw, it's going to be hooked up to the Alpine MRV-F450 amp. Any info would be appreciated.

Then throw that type-r 10 in a sealed box. Wouldn't take up but half the space of the ported box and you'd get plenty of output (way more than a free-air 8"). You can always turn the bass down and adjust it to your liking....once you start trying to get more out of a little free-air 8", hello distortion. Not sure what the type-r likes sealed but try a nice 8" or 10" sub that only needs a small sealed volume and only needs 2-300 watts.

They sound pretty good for a stock sub replacement, but of course they werent as loud as my type R 10 inch in the ported box. I was surprised the Kicker CVT 8 inch was nearly the same size as the stock sub. Bumps a LOT better than stock but not too crazy, just what I wanted. Nice and subtle for everyday listening. Although I think my amp is too strong for the sub, I can't put the settings on full bass.
Overall I am satisfied with the 8 inch CVT and it'is pretty strong for a little guy.

So I don't know if I want a box in my trunk, get a replacement sub in the place of the stock (little more powerful with an aftermarket amp), or do I want to do something like in the niebur3's thread and what he did with the one mounted right behind the seat. Smaller probably. Problem is I know nothing about this stuff haha

reading all these threads about subs and what not made me want to get a nice little sub, a little more powerful than stock, but I like my trunk space too, and I hate when there is a heavy ass system in the trunk and make the car sag in the back.

200W from that alpine is too much to put into the rear deck. It is not strong enough to handle a sub like that. 75W or so, might be OK - this is about twice the stock.
You can drop a little 8 in a sealed box at less than .5 cu ft and push the 200W to it. You could even mount it to the back of the seat and have it push through the ski pass. It might empty into your trunk about 6" if you build the box long and skinny.

ok so is the kicker c8 better than the cvt 8??? i have 2 12" jl audios sitting in my garage but i also dont want a box in the back of my car. not too worried about the trunck space but about the extra weight. so i think getting a stock replacement would be the best thing for me. i have a rockford 1800 watt amp is this too much for either one of these 8" subs??? dont mean to thread jack but i think others may want to know which is better from these two, and also i googled it too and found a couple. there is also a c88 with 8ohm is this better or not?

Why would you do that?n Unless the new sub is more efficient, the sub will sound the same. If the sub is more efficient then there will be a difference in sound. My Accord the 100watt blue thunder amp sounded great. Stock ELS sub amp channel will be 50-70watts max 15-20watts RMS.
