Navigation Help "Downloading Software"

Help Needed, Took my 2004 TL to the dealer today and spent $130 dollars for them to tell me that I have a faulty navigation system. It would cost $700 dollars to fix. I know i've seen posts where others were having the same problem, and was able to send the unit into alpine for about $200. My question is has anyone had the exact same problem, and how did you get it fixed? Any detail or a picture of the navigation unit would help greatly, since I do not know what the navigation unit it self looks like.

What the system currently does, when ever the car is turned on, it cycles through first "Downloading software", then it will ask for the security code. I put the code in and everything works until i turn off the car and start it back up, it will cycle through "downloading software", "security code again". this happens every time i turn the car off and on.

Any help would be wonderful. Thank You

Looks like the unit is losing power every time the car is turned off. Check the harness at the rear of the navi unit to make sure it is fully seated.
The navi unit is in the trunk on the right (passenger) side. You will have to remove the trunk liner to get to the harness.

Not sure of the problem but definitely try searching here to see if anyone has had this problem. The above suggestions sound good to start with. I'm sure its a PITA to get to the back of the nav unit but it'll save you a ton of money. The actual nav. unit in the trunk is very easy to get to. Its exposed along the right side near the actual trunk lid..can't miss it. Pull up that side of carpet and unscrew it. Just check to make sure everything is plugged in and secure, etc.

Edit: I'd be getting my money back from the stealership if they did that. If they can't fix it..shouldn't cost more than however much "labor" cost for the time spent.

yea something's not hooked up right or there's a problem with the unit itself.

That downloading software and code stuff only happens to me after i've unplugged the battery and should not re-appear on subsequent restarts.

I checked the cables, and they all seem to be snug and in place. I decided to send the navigation unit into alpine in California with a check for $158, to have them look at it. I will post results in about 2 weeks, wish me luck.
