Navigation "Bread Crumbs" Question

I have the factory navi system in my TL and there is a lot of development going on where i live, so i thought it would be interesting to have the "bread crumb" option on. For anyone not familiar with that, it leaves little round dots when you go on roads not on the navi disc. It worked fine for a while, but now i notice the ones it left around my house are now shown going through lakes and stuff. I don't think I've driven through any lakes this year, or at least none that i remember.

Does anyone have an idea of what's going on? Anyone else have this problem? Please help....if anything it's more irritating than anything. I suppose i could just turn the function off, but sometimes it's good to know where you've been.

How do you turn bread crumb on? I know when I go off track, it sometimes is a red trail vs blue... Just curious.

Thanks,
Shane

There are actually many threads on bread crumbs. Here are some that came up with a search:
This one will probably answer your question:

I've noticed the breadcrumbs on a new road near my house can vary from day to day as to location as it lays them down. Probably has to do with which satellites are giving a clear signal or some such. You could put the Navi into diagnostic mode to see if several satellites are blocked.

Also, sometimes the lakes and rivers aren't in there too precisely. I have a line of breadcrumbs indicating that I drove down the middle of the Ottawa River in a part of Quebec with no Navi coverage. The river is shown, but no roads, so I assume the overall thing for that area is just a general depiction.
