Navi distance off, please advise.

I have searched, forgive me if it has been discussed however when I type in an address..lets say Outback Steakhouse...it gives results of ones in California ( i am in NC). It does this for everything, i played around with the settings, the quick start manual, have no clue whats wrong. I have set what state i am in, my HOME address. Whenever i choose anything it always sends me BFE...thanks in advance.
