Nav Hack?
Has anyone tried opening or booting from the Nav DVD with their computer? I am wondering if it would be possible to modify the Nav DVD to remove the annoying warning screen. Seems like you could copy the data to your hard drive, modify it and then burn it to a DVD.
Any thoughts?
Does anyone know what operating system the nav unit runs on? I would guess a flavor of Linux?
Does anyone know if it is a single or dual layer disk?
I will pull mine out when I get home next week, but I figured I would see if anyone has already tried.
Please don't preach on the legal liabilities of removing the warning screen. I promise I will keep a disk with the warning screen and swap it anytime Aunt Martha borrows the TL.

Pretty sure the nav system runs on a version of Windows CE
Also, I read on here in a few places that the DVD only contains the data, and that the actual nav software sits on a harware chip. This makes sense because it would by far faster to load the actual program off a chip versus off a DVD everytime, but is also unfortunate because upgrades to add features are pretty much impossible or very difficult at best. This would also mean it would be very difficult if not impossible to modify the software to remove the disclaimer.

nope hasn't been done so far. its not the dvd that you have to hack. its the software embedded in the navi. the dvd just contains the map and locations. you can do whatever you want with the dvd disc not gonna get rid of the navi screen.

do this. get the flash code and deassamble it and find the file with the warning on it and make it skip it. so this wa the flash on the hardware is your edited one. Or, open the dvd drive, remove the flash chip and extract the code from it and reprogram it.
Now, if the warning and stuff is only on the dvd then its alot easier.
its alot of work but it can be done.

wonder if you can add more voices or change certain ones like if you're going the wrong way instead of recalculating the route it tells you "hey dumba$$ you going the wrong way" or "you missed the turn idiot" that would be pretty cool

You can update navi software witha new dvd. If you insert an updated cd it will flash the memory and you have a new software. The disclaimer may be hard coded. but i am pretty sure the software isn't.

I'm still just amazed that this less that 30 seconds of time, has caused HOURS of bickering and arguing and complaining and anguish. Take the time that you have spent TYPING about the damned screen, and you'll have exceeded the time that the screen has been UP on the dash.
I use the Acura logo screen, and the warning screen as a guage to say Ok, the car has had its 30 second warm up, I can put it in gear and go now. Versus the people who crank the car and run. Hell, snug your seatbelt, stow your stuff, get your sunglasses, by then it's ready. And just WHAT do you need it for within the first 30 seconds, you can still change the radio.
Do you bitch about the EPA logo and the BIOS post everytime you boot up your PC too ?? Do you whine about the XBox or PS/2 logo when it fires up ??
Jesus people, lay off the stimulants.

Like Sherlock says - Getting rid of the "OK" press will buy you nothing.
I've hit the "OK" button immediately after it comes up, and there's still a couple extra seconds of boot-up time.
Modifying the Navi firmware would be a large effort that may cause future Navi upgrades to fail, increase your chance of a lawsuit, and save you no time at all when waiting to use your Navi. It may even increase your stress level, since you'll be looking at some other screen and waiting for it to clear so you can start using the system - with no visible demarkation of when the Navi is getting close to ready for use.
Oh, wait - it will save your finger a single button press. I guess it's all worth it now.
