muffled sound system on 2005 TL factory sound system

Does anyone know how to fix a muffled sound system on a 2005 TL? I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

What source are you listening to?

If its a CD, make a DVD-a using the DVD-a creation thread method.
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=118963

I've found that the same music off a CD sounds better in DVD format even though its still 2 ch. Seems like the ELS turns some other sound filter on or enhances it in some other way?

????Could be in my head????

when I listen to anything...sounds like someone is singing or speaking while covering their mouths...lol...or the sound is coming from far away. I know there's got to be something wrong cause I expect more from the TL. OK I'll take it to service....just got it brand new 2 weeks ago...so will miss my ride....also passenger heat/ac vent makes a tapping noise. Will get that checked out too.

did the radio sound muffled at the time of purchase or is it something that is new that is happening. and if so, how long has it sounded muffled. check your treble, bass, etc.... if no resolution then take it back. the dealer would be more than happy to fix it.

Are you talking all speakers or just the rears??

Myself - wish they would have made the rear speakers/channels more like a typical 4 speaker system in a car. All with full volume/frequency capability. Granted the TL is 5.1 but the rears should sound more "normal" when playing something other than 5.1 encoded disks.

I definitely dislike the way the sound "muffles" as you fade the sound rearward. No matter what you play in the TL, when fading to the rear it definitely sounds like rear "effects" vs actual stereo sound etc....

Is this what you are describing TL2005Lover??

It's muffled all around. I actually didn't have the radio on too much during the test drive. I was more interested about the sound of the car at the time. When I took it home, I thought it just had to be adjusted. But I haven't been able to make it sound right. My Benz, Lexus, and Avalon did not have this problem. I hope it's not how it's not supposed to be like this on a TL. I love my TL but expect the system to be better.

I am a new TL owner. Just three weeks now.

I do know what you mean by "muffled". I did not notice it at first, but by the second week I did start to notice it.

I played with the settings, and it helped somewhat. The main thing is to set the Treble to MAX. If this is not enough, try to lower the bass to maybe -1 or -2. Still muffled, but these tweak help it to be less muffled.

Thanks everyone. I'm not much of audiophile...is that the right word? But I can spot a bad sound. I've gotten to the point where I'm getting annoyed now. Glad to know that it's not just me. I'll drop by the dealership and will let you know what I find out. I lvoe

I find myself turning up the treble a bit towards the max as well. Right now now its about one away from max, but I think its just how the 5.1 processes the sound from non dvd-a type cd's.
