WoW love the pics! I want to build this for my 05. I have a Fosgate 3/60.1. and Kicker Amps...Could you post the exact plans? How did you secure the box to the seatback? Like you back in the early days of BOOM circa 1984, I had an 83 Honda Accord running two Kenwood 901s. One powered four 10inch Fosgate Punch 10s for subs/ the other running 4 JBL 6by9s for lows, a Kenwood 801 for mids highs and Infinity ribbon tweeters, Kenwood 1023 Din Head that would peg a DB meter at a quarter volume.... come to think of it thats probably why I cant hear the factory radio now But I would really love to be able to hear and feel Flim and the BBs "Trycycle" again like back in the day

I'm going to attempt this guys and I don't have that much experience with wood, but it looks pretty straight forward.

for the guys that are asking for dimensions, why not just pick a sub and go with the specs it calls for.
so in order to get the dimensions, you would have to measure your trunk space and figure it all out.
Honestly, It doesn't look all that hard. Just take your time and make sure the measurements are spot on!

Since this will be my first time building a subwoofer enclosure, it'll be a little sloppy but expected. Then you can go back and make adjustments if needed, or make a whole new box.

MDF is fairly cheap, so if I screw up I can always get more.

That's the ONLY way to do it. The bandpass design is super sensitive to the volume of both boxes and the port dimensions. Just a little off on the box size and it will sound horrible.

You guys can't use Roger's box design for a different sub, it won't work.

All I can say is I built my own and if I can do it, anyone can.

Thanks IHC for backing me up.

As for the design, its awesome and when I was reading Jason's thread I KNEW I HAD TO HAVE THIS.

Also guys the internet is your friend, Don't be afraid to research how air moves and how to produce the best sound out of the box.

I don't have any experience at all with sound or wood working but I am confident that with enough patience and the correct measurements it'll come out just like Roger's box.

glad to see more people trying this. Met up with some TLers in Reno this past weekend & they were pretty impressed with the small scale of this thing. Sounds way bigger than it is.

IHC,

I'm interested in seeing the box you made for W6's. I like to get a box made for my TL.

Ive tried so many boxes and couldn't get any of them to sound right. Im not looking for super loud but more accurate, fast and deep without losing breath if you know what i mean.

I have a Boston G5 12" ... and its a great sounding Subwoofer but in the TL its so hard to make it sound good.

If anybody could help me out and give me the cuts or just some info id be so grateful

thank you

That's the same problem I've had. The exact same W6s sounded so good in my GN. The same subs, same sealed box, and same amp in the TL left a lot to be desired. The bandpass is what fixed everything. It never misses a beat and is so accurate.

I believe i sent you pictures of my install a while back which pretty much looks similar to this design but not completely.

Mine is front firing trough the arm rest opening in a sealed box build to specs. From the face of the Subwoofer everything back is sealed off completely. or at least as much as i could have sealed it off. And then there is that space from the width of the subwoofer box to the opening of the arm rest, which is another champer and then into the cabin. Looking at this design it doesn't vary much from mine.

Is it a true bandpass or is the spot between the front of the subs and opening just a part of the car?

Bandpass has to be exact. Both chambers have to have the correct volume and the port has to be tuned with the right length and width. The box has to be built to your exact subwoofer, there's no such thing as a prefabbed bandpass.

That makes sense. As CSW put it, you're going to get sort of a weird bandpass response. It will never sound just right with that setup. You have to have a front and rear chamber sized just for bandpass and airtight made just for your sub along with the proper port dimensions.

What you did is the last thing I did before I went to a bandpass. I had to run a ton of power to get any low end and on some music it sounded tight but on most stuff it was not very accurate. With the true bandpass, I cut my gains by over half and it's soooo much louder and more accurate now.

I guess i do have a badpass design but not a controlled one. It does sound exactly the way you describe it. for example country sound very hollow. rolling down windows seems to help a lot.

so please help me out designing a box for the G5 i should require the same cubic space as the W6

Honestly, the best way to design one is to come up with the volumes and port requirements from the manufacturer and design the dimensions to fit in the TL. Designing one of these boxes is way beyond mine and most peoples' knowledge. I copied CSWBiggs design and blueprint which was based off of JL's blueprints. Some people have the programs to design them but it's complicated.

The specs for my W6s won't work with yours. I believe a lot of it has to do with the TS parameters of the sub. Or in other words, one 12" sub can vary greatly in it's requirements compared to another 12" sub.

With this design if I had it to do over again I would go with only one 12". One 12 in this enclosure would be louder than 2 of them in a sealed enclosure. I could've saved a ton of trunk space.

When I first built the box I was thinking there was no way it could work. The sealed part of the box is 1.29 cubic feet. It's as small as you can possibly fit 2 12s in. They're nearly butted up against each other, the box it only large enough to fit the diameter of the subs and clear the magnets. These setups are a whole new world to someone like me who lacks experience.

I guess for me to get it right would be a miracle Im just tired of experiencing as i have spent so much time trying to get it right. I mean its tolerable, its not bad but not really up to my expectations

maybe i should get rid of my two G5s and get one W6 and copy you

im even waiting for you to find out about that thermostat for the lack of low end power and sluggishness.

if i could fix that problem... a supercharger would not wait long ...

That's if I build it right.

Also, my sub's mounting depth is waaaaay bigger than Rogers. Mine won't be as mini.
