Just Installed: Alpine ILX-007 (aka Apple CarPlay)

This completes my system. Replaced the entire stock system with components in the doors, coaxial in the rear deck, 5 ch. amp, 10" JL sub, and the Alpine CarPlay head unit. Also have a hardwired ProClip dock which connects via Apple lightening cable to the back of the CarPlay unit.

Figured people on here might have questions about the setup, so fire away.

Nice install! I have been interested in car play for a while now. My question is how did you get the stock navi to work after you took out the factory radio? And what 5 channel amp did you go with and where did you place in in the car. thanks

I also like the appearance of that, but does the phone need to be plugged in to the head unit, or will it work via BT?

Answers to the above:

1. Alpine PDX-V9. Mounted in the trunk. Amazon link:
Robot Check Robot Check

2. The stock navi will still work, however that's all it is good for now and really, it's just redundant since Apple Maps (while not as good as Google Maps) is 1,000 times better with traffic and all that jazz. When you press the physical radio button in the center console nothing happens. Also, the backup camera is still hooked to the navi, which was on purpose since it is larger and the screen is higher and already wired to the reverse gear.

3. Right now, phone must be plugged via lightening cable to the back of the head unit. However, iOS 8.2 (or 8.3, can't remember) adds functionality that allows CarPlay via Bluetooth. However, it will probably literally SUCK your battery on the phone since it's managing everything, so you're going to need to plug it into a power source anyway. Two birds with one stone in this case with my setup.

4. The half circles are DEFINITELY going to get filled in soon, that's on the to-do list now.

5. It's a ProClip. There are two parts to it, a cradle and a mount:

First the cradle: Apple iPhone 6 Without A Case Padded Holder with Tilt Swivel for Cable Attachment-ProClip USA

Then the mount: Acura TL 2004-2008 ProClip Angled Mount-ProClip USA

Hey the install looks great! Today, I thought of doing a carplay receiver and wondered how it would be. How hard was the wiring of the head unit itself? Which mounting kit did u use?

Definitely show how you're gonna fill the "ears" (half circles). Nice setup.

Does anyone know if the ilx 007 will fit where the stock navi is now? I know the ilx 007 is about 3 inches deep...has anyone removed their navi and know if there's like 3 inch ish back there? It would be cool to have it higher up for better viewing
