Is the JL HD 600/4 as clean as the 450/4v2
My 450/4 has some noise in a channel and needs to go back for a while. Probably going to use it in my Olds when it is repaired.
Id the HD600/4 as clean sounding as the 450/4? While most JL amps are good/very-good without being exceptional, I don't want anything with less quality than the 450/4 was. I will not happy about running a non power-supplied amp on my comps, but I have already gotten over it.
My list is the HD 600/4, another 450/4 or a LRx 4.1k. I am open to suggestions too - under $750 or so and needs to be at least as clean sounding as the 450/4 on the range of 100-150 per channel on at least 2. I might even pony up for a C2K-4.0 if somebody can tell me that they are worth it.
Anybody have real experience? Thanks in advance.

From the reviews I've read, all of the HDs are dead quiet. You may have read this already but here's a good review of the HDs.http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/...o-hd-amps.html
I wish I had first hand experience but give me a month or so and I'll have an HD 900/5. One very good bang for the buck is the old 6 channel I'm using, a JL A6450. 70x6@4ohm, 110x6@2ohm, 140/220 bridged. $260-$270 is not bad. I'm surprised just how loud only 70 watts is. It's not an SQ amp but it's very clean.

The hd's are awesome amps and you both should be satisfied. The 600/4 is one of my favorite amps. It puts out a nice amount of power bridged and it's tiny.
I swapped out a sundown 100.4 for the 600/4 due to space reasons and sq was the same. If space isn't a concern, i'd throw the sundown 100.4 into the mix. i'm sorta mad i sold the jl since i could've recycled it into the new setup.

Looks like I will be able to trade a timing belt labor on an Accord for some pillars (and maybe an install) for the no 7s. Maybe a few more months, but it is not like I am dying with the K2s. I tried some junk yard pillars and I ruined them - this fabrication is beyond me without a lot of help.
So the Zapco is not any better than the Audison for the extra money? I will probably go with the Audison, then.
I have a Solid4 that came with the 7s that I was going to use for 4 more channels - any issue with this? It sounded great for a few minutes that I tried it, just low power... gotta have at least 150 for those midbass. I could not find too much on the Solid4, but it is as good as their speakers, then I will like it.
One more question - K2 midbass or CXR midbass for the rears? I will have both when I put the 7s in. I have some polyglass and boston pro mids too. Would it even matter very much from 80 to 2800 or so?
Eggy - I know what you mean about selling stuff. I sold a mint chrome Big Belle about 8 years back and regretted it ever since. Now I just keep stuff... and I have way too much and need to get selling at least the stuff that I don't like or will never use. I seem to pick up something new off of CL at least once a month.

I use the Zapco DC1000.4 to drive my door and rear 6.5"s and am very happy with it. I run my system active with a 360.4 for my tweeters and center. The great thing about the Zapco is that the balanced Symbilink interconnects integrate perfectly with the TL's balanced HU outputs. The system is dead quiet. You should be able to find one in the DIYMA classifieds for the price range you quoted.

The HD sounds even cleaner and more detailed than the jl slash. The sound has a different ambience to it though all amps do. If you were going to go or stay active, the audison would be the way to go. Audison and Focal should sound nice together. Its a smooth amp that should blend well with the high detail of the Focal sound. I want to get my hands on a set of Krx2's.

I picked these doods up today off of the local craigslist. They are the 1 model old, but they are clean. I should have time to install them in the AM and then 'roundabout 240 miles tomorrow... so I should have a good idea after that.
I didn't need the 1.1K, but the price was pretty good so I bought it to match.

Got the 4 channel in. Had to wire it a little differently since the LRx didn't have a bandpass filter that I could find. Really easy to set up since it has the 1-500 dial and the 1/10x similar to the JL and similar slopes.
Pros:
Significantly better sound than the 450/4 - the vocals were instantly noticeable.
More power than advertised - pushed 98 watts at 3.94 ohms at 100hz at 14.1V.
Love the front controls.
Cons:
Now that I know that this thing made such a big difference, I am going to have to resist the urge to get a Quattro.
I am going to try and hook the 1.1k up tonight.

Got the 1.1k in too. Had to run it at about .84 ohms to get the same power as the T1500.bdcp gives at 3.4ish ohms. Although I really like the recent RF Power amps near 4 ohms for SQ, efficiency and heat, this amp does the same thing slightly under 1 ohm. Very impressive since most amps start to suck and get hot at lower resistance. I really use these things, and heat will really destroy amps fast (channels start to get noisy) - I have seen it.
Watt meter says 660 watts to put out 502 at 40 hz (76%), so it is not efficient as a D, but is still a lot better than most other ABs under 1 ohm that are well into the 60% level, or less.
I did not test max power while I had the watt meter out.
I would probably not buy this amp if you had a suitable amp to run with low heat, low distortion and high efficiency (think high ohms), but it is significantly better than most other 1 ohm amps. It is not an upgrade over the T1500.1bdcp at high resistance, but I imagine that it would be at low resistance.
Summary:
After 1 day with the Audisons, I would say that anybody with set of comps over $500 would probably be looking past slash/PDX/etc. amps and into something like this. Although I really love my 450/4 and will always have fond memories of it, I would grade it as Very Good and this Audison as Excellent (Exceptional is being saved in case I ever buy an even better amp - like the quattro that I am pretending that I did not see on DIYMA). My new general take is JL amps for JL comps, RF amps for RF subs, Kicker for Kicker, etc... but I am sure that there are exceptions.
If you have a SQ sub setup, then you should probably be using a SQ sub amp (or a high resistance, low distortion). However, most people think that they have SQ sub setups and they really don't (IMO), so probably not much for people to gain here.
This dude has a few more of these. He cut a GOOD deal when I bought 2. PM me if you want some contact info... or they are on the KC Craigslist.
Take this FWIW since I am a dogmatic dinosaur.
