Ipod/Iriver question

I am one of the only people out there that doesnt have an ipod.. I thought id be a moron and get the iriver instead. I have an 04 TL and it doesnt have a aux output. I was reading in some threads about this dice thing... Will this work for any mp3 player or is it for the IPOD?? How can i get my iriver to play in my car without the radio and tape adapter. those sound like crap..

I believe the Dice and the USA Spec are made specifically for the iPod. They both have the connector for the iPod only and, my guess is, have to contain software compatible with the respective music player. However, there may be alternative modules made by each company. I'd suggest doing a search on a consumer electronic site such as cruthcfield.com (which I believe carries both items).

Beyond these items, I'm not aware of any kind of "aux port replicator" which you could use for the Iriver. Here's USA Spec's website for you to do some research on supported music players: http://usaspec.com/

Otherwise, you may have to give in and finally get an iPod...I resisted for a long time as well...not a huge fan of all the proprietary crap associated with iPod. But, I finally have in when the iPod Touch came out...they won me over. Best of luck.

Getting behind the deck is, without a doubt, the hardest part. You can see from a couple of the walk-thru's linked in my installation thread that it's no small task. Personally, I was VERY nervous about taking the console apart, etc. but I just moved very slowly so as to not let impatience result in a broken clip or bent trim. This was my first go at pulling apart this car (or any newer car for that matter) and in total I think the installation took me about 3 hours from beginning to end. However, the instructions provided by AcuraZine members are probably the best out there and if you follow them, you'll be okay. Just allocate enough time so you don't feel rushed.

Your assumption about having to do this no matter what is true (unless you go back to tape deck or RF as you mentioned before). It's really the only way to tap into the head unit, and it's buried back in there.

Do you have Navi or not? That may make a bit of difference on how much you have to tear apart. If you can just open the side of the carpet next to deck (on the driver's side), you may be able to just plug in right there if you don't have Navi. If you do have Navi, it's a bit more of a chore because you have to unhook the existing plug and split it off (with the adapter supplied by Dice or USA Spec).

I hear you...but, on the bright side, I'll bet that '69 Vette will be AWESOME when it's all done (btw, I learned how to drive a manual transmission in a '76 'Vette).

Get an iPod. The refurbs are ridiculousy cheap on the Apple store and it will play all of your iRiver files. Once Apple takes over the world, you will be glad you got on board.
