iPhone Integration Options?

I have been reading through threads for the last 5 hours but I still haven't come to the conclusion I was hoping for. I have read many posts on all the different units (USA Spec, Dice, iSimple (pxamg). etc) and how they work with an iPod but I can't figure out which one will give me the best of what I'm looking for with an iPhone. I have a 2006 Non-Navi TL. Here are some of the things I would like to see from the unit.

Things it needs to do:
-charge my 3Gs 32gb iPhone (OS 3.1)
-go to prev/next song (I usually just play all my songs on shuffle)
-ability to control through stereo, steering wheel controls, and iPhone (since I have 4,500 songs)
-show iPhone artist/title song text on radio
-have additional aux input

Things I would like it to do but not necessary:
-maintain XM radio (I don't use it now but maybe for future use)
-allow XM song text
-charge the iPhone even if it isn't being used as the audio source

The specs on the USA spec PA15-HON3 seem to be what I'm looking for but a lot of people have been trying the iSimple so I was hoping to get some people's advice on their setup if they have the new 3Gs iPhone.

Any advice is appreciated,
Thanks

^^ WORD.

The Peripheral iSimple kit (PXAMG and PGHHD1) is your best option.

I'd heard there were some problems with the different iSimple firmware versions out there. Have those bugs been resolved?

According to the iSimple website it says that the unit does not operate correctly with the iPhone OS 3.0 software. It says it will work in AUX mode but I'm guessing that is the same thing as just having an auxiliary-in port so that means no radio controls.

Please note that these identified issues only manifest while utilizing the advanced iPod/iPhone browsing features of the UPAC/GateWay interface. The product may be used in "AUX" mode for basic operation, playback and battery charging of iPhone & iPod touch models running OS 3.0.

I've installed many of these for use with the new iPhone OS and not had any issues. Other AZ members have done the same and not had issues. Peripheral is probably just playing it safe with the posted statement.

About the bugs... I haven't seen any one the 2004 to 2006 TL kits. There is a display quirk on the NavTraffic kit though. But you won't be using that kit.

I've got my PGHHD2 harness on my NavTraffic 07 TLS working with an iPhone 3g (OS 3.1) and it works like a charm. I hope you have your music well categorized by genre though, scrolling through the artists can be a bitch!

Good luck.

+1..I have hooked up and the only complaint I have is that if the engine isn't on while playing music on the iphone, it will cause the nav unit to lock up at times. PS, you should purchase it off one of the dealers on amazon. I got my pxamg kit for 145 shipped which includes pxamg, 5v cable and the acura wiring harness tls w/o xm nav traffic.

From a Dice unit owner, I too would only recommend the Peripheral Electronics iPod adapter. My Dice unit is starting to have issues with my 1G iPod Touch running the 3.0 software, and a fix from Dice doesn't seem to be in the cards.

Hope this helps!

There is an AcuraZine vendor that sells that kit for $136.60 shipped. I don't remember his name but his signature has the link.

There are currently issues with the firmware for the iSimple with regard to the artist display. Most of the time it just says IPOD instead of the artist name. Occasionally it will correct itself when switching to the next song. Apparently Peripheral has been able to reproduce the problem but has not come out with a fix yet. I have a 3G iPhone with the 5v cable in an '05 navi and I have no problem with the unit except for the artist display which happens with any type of iPod.

UPAC HON1 Just installed into my 05' TL with Navigation...it's a beautiful thing.

It is the only one, after trying several, that works exactly like it should. Fully compatible.

Hon3

I just purchased the USA SPEC Hon3 and it is nothing but joy. I am still putzing around with the menu system, but other than that it's a joy.

I have an iPhone 3G and it charges it while it is attached. Additionally, I have an additional aux cord to hook up a ..........ahem, Zune ..... or other device.

I really cannot complain about a thing with this device. It does everything that you pointed out in your wish list.

I would be careful about the DICE product. I looked into that one and the specs for reproductive sound quality were not as good as the USA SPEC. Additionally, the software seemed to stumble on iPhone 3.01 and above. The last I checked their web page, this had not changed.

Hope this helps.

Purchased and had installed recently the Isimple ipod adapter and HD radio module. The adapter charges my ipod touch. You can prev/next song using stereo or steering wheel controls. You can browse playlists, artists, albums on your ipod. Artist/title song text is displayed on radio and dash display. Additional aux input is available. You maintain XM radio with song text and ipod charges even if it isn't being used as the audio source. The ipod pauses when car is turned off and I believe will pause when using HFL. Although have not tested yet! There is a noticeable difference in the HD radio sound (clearer and distinct) and depending where you live there are stations broadcasting in HD. On the hdradio.com website there is a listing by cities of HD stations. Way cool. The Isimple gives me the ipod integration I wanted in my car along with more audio choices. It works for me.

My Isimple did not pause the ipod using HFL.

Also, had a quirk where I had to turn the power off the radio and back on for it to function. Can't live with that. Any suggestions? 2006 TL no Nav.

Didn't they fix the ipod pause with the new firmware? I too am looking for an iphone integration option, but does plug it in lock the screen just to music? I have a GPS application that has ipod integrated into it so it would be great to use the GPS and the ipod at the same time.

use navigon gps for the iphone. it supports gps and music playing at the same time and text to speech navigation goes through the isimple/pxamg just fine.

You're doing something wrong! Unplug the battery for 15 min, connect and beging the installation procedure over again to the T. Make sure the dip switches are in the correct position. Do the 3min wait deal, it should work. I was having trouble too, I redid it, and it worked fine.

I have a '06 TL non-navi myself. Just had the USA SPEC HON3 installed today and it is fantastic. Works flawlessly with my iPhone 3GS 3.1.2. Would highly recommend so far.
