Exclamation Infinity Basslink - Not impressive / Would you recommend Alpine products?

I ordered the Infinity Basslink a few days ago and installed it in my TL. I wasn`t really impressed with the sound. Sounds a bit tight and it can`t hit the lower bass frequencies plus not enough power. I think the stock subwoofer actually sounds better. Anyway I was planning on getting an Alpine sub and amp. Do you guys have experience with Alpine products? The amp has speaker level inputs but I want to know if that acts as a remote turn on for this amp also. Would I need a line output converter? Here is what I`m looking at:

Alpine SWS-12D4
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu..._SWS-12D4.aspx

Alpine MRP-M500
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu..._MRP-M500.aspx

Any advice and input would be much appreciated! Thank you.

I had a basslink in our explorer. Its kind of a one note wonder. Did not go that route with the TL. Single 15 in IB. But i am sure unless you have issues it should be better than the oem sub

That`s true that its the "one note wonder". It plays the higher bass frequencies well but not the low frequencies. i think since its only has a 200 watt amp with a 10" subwoofer and located in the truck, you won`t be able to get much sound (loudness) from it. That`s why I`m looking into the separate amp and sub option. That Alpine amp has 500 watts RMS that matches perfectly with the power rating of the Alpine 12" sub. Just wondering with else I would need for the install. (LOC, remote turn on wire, etc.)

All the above, and power and ground. perhaps the amp can take a high level input and you dont need the LOC

Ok. Sorry that I`m new at this. Where would I tap the "remote wire" from to power on the amp?

I have the basslink in the same location as pictured above. I like it, think it sounds great, for what it is. I used to have an orion cobalt 10" sub with matching 240 watt amp, of course it sounds better than the basslink, but it also took up a good portion of the trunk. I need the space so the basslink is a good compromise.

That alpine setup will definitely put out more than the basslink.

I`m not saying that it sounds horrible. It`s decent. I guess I was used to the Kicker L5 that I had before in my other car. Yeah I think the alpine setup would be good. I`ll just have to find a nice 12" ported subwoofer box for it. I think the 500 RMS power (Amp and Sub) would be perfect for me. Just trying to figure out how to wire up things. I have the power and ground wire already. I used the speaker level inputs for the Basslink from my stock subwoofer wiring which also acts as a remote turn on wire for the Basslink. I was wondering if the Alpine amp would do the same...

dcon 10 would be a good idea. Cheap, effective, small box requirements. Easy to power. You don't loose much space

Build a slot ported box 32" long, 13" tall, 9" deep with the port being 1" wide. Back part of the port can be altered for different tuning freq., but at 18" long you're looking at 28hz. Box is 1.33cuft so 1.23 (perfect)

Much better than the s

But since it's a boutique brand, it'll be passed over.

That's almost as bad as the people that pass over great equipment because it's mainstream.

I hear you, what i was trying to say is that the basslink gives the sound that should have come stock. Having 2 kids' stuff and my golf clubs means I have no room for a nice sized box anymore. A good single 10-12" sub with a ported box should give quite a good sound.

I installed a Focal IBus 2.0 (8 inch) in my trunk attached to the back of the rear seat... It's not loud, but you can still hear the bass with the windows down, driving at freeway speeds. I'm 30 years old, and don't have a need to let the world hear my music. I just want to enjoy it and have it sound good in my car!

However, in my younger days, it was nice having two 12" imagedymanics in the back of the STi

Do something like this, I have sinced replaced that JL with an Alpine Type-R 8" and it beats pretty damn good for an 8.

My New Alpine Install

I finally went ahead and purchased an Alpine Amplifier and Subwoofer and I am very happy with the results compared to the Infinity Basslink. The sound is much louder and cleaner compared to the Basslink (Since I`m pushing 500 watts RMS versus 200 watts RMS on the Basslink.) Here is a picture of my new setup. The only problem I have now is that the Subwoofer box and amp are sliding around in my trunk because of the trunk tray that I have. How can I secure these so that they don`t move around? Thanks.

Build a baffle peice off to the side where you amp is currently and mount the amp to the board. The box you can make some brackets to secure the box in place
