i just installed my isim71 and HDRT radio

i have a 06 TL with Nav, and installed the isim71 (aka: pxamg with pghhd1 harness), and the HDRT HD Radio. When i was gathering information on what i would need i noticed that a lot of information was spread out. so i wanted to go over everything i purchased, where i purchased it and how it all works.

i purchased the isim71 on ebay for $36.00, i got lucky some how. the isim is the same product as the PXAMG, but the PXAMG does not come with the harness for the acura vehicle which is needed.
https://acurazine.com/forums/sponsored-sales-group-buys-10/isimple-group-buy-707785/

i purchased the HDRT from cartoys.com, but through amazon.com. if you go straight to cartoys.com its $99.00 bucks. but through amazon its only $69.00.
http://www.amazon.com/Peripheral-HD-...6231416&sr=8-1

i also wanted to purchase the 5volt cable. the isim71's ipod cable only charges older ipods. the new 5volt cable will charge both older and newer ipods. i tested it on an older iphone, as well as my nano (newest model). which i got from uncald4 (official vendor)
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=707785

uncald told me i would need antenna adapter for the HDRT Radio tuner to convert Acura's stock antenna to a regular Motorola style radio plug, (BUT THIS IS NOT TRUE, YOU DO NOT NEED AN ADAPTER, ACURA USES THE REGULAR MOTOROLA ANTENNA ADAPTER). i researched this everywhere, some people said i did need it, others said i didnt. i bought them just incase, but i did NOT need them.

if you install the HDRT radio it will use the stock antenna disabling your stock radio. so if you hit the FM button on the cars deck you will not gat any stations.

i didnt want that to happen so i also purchased a splitter so i could still use both radios. (not necessary, but if someone else uses my car or hits the fm button i didnt want static to come on).
http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=1271

some people said that splitting the antenna signal would cut the quality down on both radios. though it might be true, there wasn't a noticeable difference, i tried the radio with it plugged directly in, then with the antenna split. i left it split, they still both sounds good.

so i purchased:
isim71
hdrt
motorola splitter (1 female to 2 male)
5Volt cable (to replace the ipod cable that comes with the isim71)

i then used this guide to installing the music link to take apart the console. you can find the guide here. scroll down to "2006 TL Acura Music Link"
https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...96&postcount=1

things i wanted to know when i was researching this product.

1) installing this will allow you to see artist/song info on the nav screen
2) it did that for both the ipod, and older iphone, though it puts them into a "connected mode" so you cant use the phone for other features.
3) with the new 5volt cable it charged both the iphone/newest nano
4) HD radio does sound much better, i switched between the stock radio, and the same channel on HD and it sounded much better.
5)downside - not that many HD channels in San diego.
6)there are extra channels with HD radio. ex: 93.3 and 93.3-2

things i know now, that would have been nice to know

1) when removing the liner behind the glove box, the silver lining on the sides of the console, and the center air conditioning vent (with mini display), you will need to pull with some force. each of those items came off right at the point i thought they were going to break. so do it carefully, you might think "this cant be right, its gonna break", but just then it came off.

i guess thats about it. sorry i didnt do pics, as my camera broke. i hope this helps, when i was researching i wanted a single thread that had all the info i needed, i think this might be as close as it gets.

JK, I know you already mentioned the status of your cam.

Thanks for compiling all the info into one thread yo! One thing that might stand corrected is the loss of phone capabilities with the iphone. Even though the ipod goes into "connected device" mode, you should still be able to press the center button and return back to the main menu as the ipod operates in the background. I'm not positive about this since we didn't try it with the iSlim, but that's how it is with the OEM Acura music linky thing.

Anyways, I think I want an iJim now. Do you remember who the seller was on ebay that you found it from? The cheapest I've seen the iLim for is $150. I'd hesitate at that price but for less than $50, I'd get an iShim in a heartbeat!

Thanks again for the info and links.

I picked up the HDRT tonight at Best Buy on clearance. If there is a way to get to the antenna easily, I'll put this thing in on Saturday and take a pic.

Does the tuner still pick up the am and regular fm stations still?

Carlos,

Congratulations on installing an HD Radio into your car. I am VERY excited to see one in a TL....finally!

After being on the air for almost 32 years, I can tell you that the radio industry in kind of hanging it's hat on HD Radio. One of the things that shows "acceptance" for any industry (like XM Radio) is it's indoctrination into automobiles. It's been a long time coming for HD Radio. I think this is the first TL on Acurazine to install an HD Radio.

It a cool thing indeed !!!

OK, I tried last night to fish out the antenna without removing any panels. No luck.

I think I'll just take it back to the store. I'm not up for major dissassembly at this point.

So the 5V Cable is still required to charge an iphone 3g?
Did the newer isimple kits start including this?
I don't see the option for it anywhere on the isimple website.
