How can I tell if I have traffic live ?

How can I tell if I have traffic live ?
How I have a 04 TL with nav and need to know if I have traffic live. I don't know anything about it. I you have it how do you turn it on?

Only the 07-08 TL Navi system has traffic

you would have to subscribe to xm traffic, which usually comes standard with any package subscription, or you can purchase xm traffic separately. It cost me about $40 bucks a year

I must not have it because I never have traffic! why would you pay extra for traffic? that sounds crazy!
