high output alternator ???

I have an 07 TL Type S. It has the 3.5L V-6. I just installed a Rockford Fosgate T20001bd amp. It is powering 2 kicker L7 15's. The amp has a 250 amp fuse in it. I also have an 8 farad cap on the system. I spoke with ohio generator today and they said that their computer only had info on the TL for 07 and earlier. He needed to know who the "OE" manufacturer of the alt. was. to be able to build me a new one. Im trying to get at least 200-250 amperes of power. Does anyone know and has anyone else done this? Right now when I turn the subs up my voltage is dropping from 14.1V down to 11.0 +-.

I would guess the 08 alternator is the same as the 07, no?

Got any pics of this setup? I'm curious to see what 2 15's look like in a TL - LOL

with the recommended enclosure requirements for the l7's i doubt he can fit 2 15s in there

probably in tiny boxes

The minimum requirement for the L7's is 1.88 cu.ft. I am currently useing a box that is 4.44 cu.ft. sealed. I also have a box that is 7.50 cu.ft. vented @ 32 hrtz. And no it is not enough bass!! It hurts my ears but it will never be enough! I am trying to talk my wife into letting me me ditch the back seat and put all 4 of the L7 15's in the car. that Might be enough. What Is " the big 3" ?? Ive never heard that term.

Ahh the big 3. I will do these upgades tomorrow.I dont think that it will solve my voltage problem though. My amp has a birth certificate of 2444w rms @ 2 ohms. wich is what i am running it at. that Translates into 185 ampers of current draw. My factory alternator is rated @ 130 ampers. But if I have to start somewhere it wouldnt hurt to start with the obvious.And according to the tecnitions@ kicker they told me that using 2 subs in a sealed box would be louder than just 1 sub in a vented encloseure due to the increase in cone area. when it comes to electrical upgrades i always advise to do the big 3 first since it's the cheapest

2 in a sealed box getting lets say 1500 watts probably won't be louder than 1 ported getting 1500 watts

other factors also come into play..i wouldnt ditch my back seat for subs..i'd just sell the subs and get a new sub like a cascade designs omega 15,re xxx, fi btl, dd 9515..you'll def hit 140-145 on the tl(no pun intended) with any of those subs installed correctly

nah I really like my L7's. They were the only things left after the chongos stole my f-350 and stripped it of $11000.00 of equipment. they are sentimental to me and never got to be used. Im also thinking of calling kicker to get a vent demension for my box if maybe that would help. But I dunno. I have the box 50% full of polly. like the tec.@ kicker advised me to. I just dont think im getting enough voltage. My voltage is dropping so low and my subs have a 3" xmax and Im really only seeing like 1-1.5"'s of that. I really like being heard and knocking things off of shelves when i pull into the parking lot.

i always go a little bigger than recommended by companies..you've ever seen the preloaded kicker subs? the boxes are usually too small and tuned too high so i always take their recommendations with a grain of salt

if i were staying with them i'd do 8 cubes gross sub up port back @32hz...gonna be somewhat difficult in that trunk though

yeah 8 cubes is almost impossible. unless you took out the spare tire and built a fiberglass encloseure in the trunk to eat up ever bit of space there. my oter box is 7.5 cubes and it took up the whoe center from wheel well to wheel well and seat to trunk latch.I think that if i get my voltage to stay steady @ 13.5 to 14 v I will be satisfied for now.

well mr. cswbiggs, maybe you should do your homework before you talk about efficiency..... My fosgate amp is over 77% efficient. And is a class BD wich uses 3 power rails to make it more efficient and draw less current. I know that JL audio has you whipped but they dont make amps that are more than 1000 watts. And if they did they would prolly only be 2ohm stable like kickers zx series. I just bought this amp and I have studied ever specification for almost every amp on the market. including; JL , alpine, kicker, Phoenix gold, well pretty much every CEA certified amp. and not excluding amps like daytona and the thesis by cadence.So when you hear your windows at your house start to tremble...... be well aware that my TL has just entered the your city limits.

look im just wanting to fix my voltage issues. I did not have time today ,to do the big 3. But I did get a chance to look at my pueney ground wire from my batt. and alt. this will be fixed tomorrow when i get new battery clamps. And I am still looking for someone to tell me some concrete information about my alternators OE model number.

I have a yellow top sitting her but when you have 2 33lb. 15's in the trunk and a box built of 3/4 in. mdf oh and did i mentiom my 33lb. amp . weight has become an issue. the yellow top weighs in @ 60 or so lbs. I dont want my head lights to light up the moon for yall to see. But that would be kinda funny ......everytime my bass hitts ; the moon would dim a little for all the world to see. {strobe moon} trance to the beat!!!

oh and im going to use 1awg wire that I have here from kicker. I have about 17 ft of it. the chongos were too lazy to completly take my truck apart and missed out on 500$ of wire and distribution blocks, fuse blocks, 17' of fiberoptic cable and AINet cable.

hahahaha...whatever...you have no idea what loud is...i've built sub enclosures that can fit 3-4 people in them no problem...what do you know of a 53cuft ported enclosure sir

or how about JBL A6000GTI amp?

Ive personaly never built one that was 53 cu. ft. but i have built one that was 24 cu. ft. and could fit a dismembered human body in. Ha! And ive also built a quarter camper to fit over it oldschool like. but that was probably before your time.Really though I love my systems and my equipment is top notch.Everyone has their own personal preffs. if you would like to show me hows its done you can come out to my place and build my system for me.Gopple-Damp-It-Turkey-Blaster.

I have the T20001BD pushing 2 12" Alpine Type Xs.. I know I could have picked better subs, but I was in a rush and didnt know any better at first, although these subs arent that bad.

Anyways.. I have 2 Optima Yellow Tops (one under the hood and one in the trunk), did the big 3, and my lights still dim. I have 0 gauge running through everywhere so a high output alternator is what Ive been thinking about too. I dont have any caps. Let me know on how much that high output alt costs you.

PHUQ2 i'm loving your setup!! I wanna see picz!! lol it must be sick. I have a few Rockford BD (Big Difference lol) amps myself in my Accord Wagon. That T2000.1BD is a MONSTER!! I had it pushin my four 15" L7's (underpowered) and it sounded aaaamazin!! But now i put in da T4000.1BD (with 6 batteries) and haha its rockin!!

the alpine type x is a low end monster, you probably have them in a shitty box if you aren't satisfied

My voltage issues are already better. And I have only changed the battery terminals. I used JL audio terminals. They were the only ones @ the store that would accept the 1awg wire twice and still have 2 more connectons for my 4 and 8 awg wires for the factory stuff. I replaced my ground with 1 awg wire. And alredy I gave it a quick test @ idle and my voltage wasn't dropping below 12.5v that is good news. So tomorrow I will upgrade the alt. wire and add a new chasis ground and hopefuly my voltage will be in the 13's. My bass hits so hard that my liscence plates are Blurry!

I dont know if anyone is still reading this or not, but I finished the big three . getting that plastic piece of of the alternator bolt was a bee-eye-tee-otch !! And I dont know how much difference it made. I did a tes run playing Dj Magic mike - Chillin on the DL. That song jams like smuckers if anyone rememberrs that track. But any way... I caught my voltage dropping to 11.7 @ idle. but that is deffinately better than it was. I wanna send a shot out to eggyhustles for the advise. (P)

That seems a lot better. Are you still considering the HO Alt? I am adding power and will have 4K of Zapco sweetness in the trunk. I've been running 2K with no modifications and absolutely no issues...

chicOG I have another battery that I might try in the trunk. But first I need to upgrade my amps ground. Right now I am cheatig by grouding my amp off of the cap and grounding my cap off of the trunk latch. And my amp and cap is just screwed to the top and back of my box. I ultimately want to move my amp and plant it on stilts about 4in. above the back dash. and im going to go 4th order with my box and fire all of the sound through the rear armrest. Ive just been too busy lately.

and yes I am still wanting an HO alternator. The more voltage the more power. Im just a little leary due to what happend when I added an HO alt in my f-350. It was a powerful 14v and 300 amps at 1200 rpm but at Idle the alt was only giving me 10.5v and wouldn't keep my batts charged. I learned not to idle but I dont want those kinds of problems again. I still need the oe part number to be able to order one. And I assume that number is on the bottom of mine because I sure cant see it on top. and Im not about to take it off before I have a replacement. All I know is that when you add that 4k amp to yours you will need a new alternator. 4k watts equals like 283 amperes of current needed. just dont do what i did in my f-350. i tried to run my t40001bd off of the factor alternator first and in under 2 minutes it would drain both batteries and had the truck down to 10v. neeedless to say I burnt up the amp in less than a day and had to ship it off and wait for a new one. ( that sucked) And before I got the new one in the chongos stole everything including the new one on the back seat still in its box. (that sucked even worse)
