Hide or Remove Tape/Cassette Player
I love my new TL and so does everyone that I show it to. But I keep getting this "nice car but, dude... is that a cassette player?"
And I agree. That is one ONE thing I disliked about the TL. Seriously; who uses cassettes anymore? Last time I used one, it was a Poison tape back in the 80s.
Does anyone know an ingenious way to hide it or remove it? Maybe an emblem or something?
Thanks in advance.

Just goes to show the wide range of people the TL is marketed toward.
If the tape player is your biggest complaint, consider you self lucky.
You should say to your 3 series friends "WOW! you paided 40K for your car, navi wasnt standard, your interior is garbage with a pretty plain design outside as well. Man, mind as well invest in a civic."

^where did you source the aluminum to fill in the two gaps left by the silver knobs?? that's crazy.
i actually get props for the cassette deck (ipod tape deck integration, books on tape). wish i had a usb/flash or some other multi-media interface though instead.

What I don't understand is why people rag on it. It's there, its not biting anyone is it? Personally I find it good that honda put it there, its a much cheaper Aux solution with an adapter rather than ripping apart your car...

I have cassettes for music that I play in the TL.
I never bought any CDs and don't have an iPod/MP3 player...
One of the reasons the TL is different from other cars is that it came with a satellite radio, a cassette and a CD/audio DVD changer; it now also has a supplemental input jack. Just tell your friends that the TL covers all the bases.

No a huge deal, but...
Thanks for the responses, some sympathetic, some not so friendly .
I know that some of you love your TL too and I'm sorry if I offended your life by having a little complaint about it. Maybe I should just complain about your religion or political affiliation to lighten things up... ANYWAY......
>"If the tape player is your biggest complaint, consider you self lucky."
Lucky? Is there something else I should worry about??
>"dude....i like my cassette player.....
>if you don't like it, take it out, stop bitching..."
Man, I guess some people still listen to cassettes...sorry :surrender ... why not put in an 8-track or a LP player for those nostalgic ones ... maybe the "mixed tape" is still the best way to win a girl over...lol
I'm NOT going to rip it off or cover it with duct tape. I was just trying to see if someone out there has like a little cute cover or something simple. It's not the end of the world.
It's the year 2008, I just think it's tacky and old school. It's my opinion, and I'm sticking with it. I still love my TL

Hahah, you're right. Maybe I just need the right tape on hand to defent myself from the haters.
Maybe I can also get my second degree "on tape"... or buy subliminal tapes to improve my vocabulary to a Harvard one... Just needed to be enlightened.

You'd want to do this why?
I didn't even notice the cassette deck until I took delivery of my TL. I would have wanted it if the TL didn't already have an aux port for my iPod... I like my podcasts. I do have a few cassettes in my car, for situations where I've forgotten my iPod and the local stations are all on commercial. (y'know - emergencies)

I guess there is nothing out there. Man, I do consider myself lucky. I wouldn't change my TL for ANYTHING of comparable price. I'm not dissing on people who use the tape player either; good for you. Just wondering if somebody has found some aluminum or plastic thingy that fits perfectly and temporarily.
Jeez, spare my life....... : (

Shoot, I'm a disc jockey at the Classic Rock radio station in Kansas City-I've still never tried my cassette deck in the 2 years I've had my Type S. Maybe I should dig out a cassette-just to say I've used it, at least once!

I thought about whether or not to gut mine and put the connector for my iPhone in there, since it fits into the deck perfectly. Some soft material to pad the inside and it would probably keep it fairly safe. I would then either need to leave slack on the wire so I could pull it out and plug/unplug it - or figure out a way to release the connection from outside of the deck. Until I figure that bit out I'm going to keep the K7 player in working order. Otherwise the phone would basically be a missile ready to take out the back window.

FYI This may help you feel better about a cassette hole.

well that was interesting.... my take on it is, not quite sure why folks are worried about an "option" that comes w/ the purchase of the car. I say option b/c most new cars don't have cassette feature and probably have to pay little just to have and that's considering its an "option". I know back few years ago, having a automatic was considered an option..... ironically, now it cost more for manuals... (wonder what the % of TL drivers actually drive manual? or even know how?)
the double din thing i contemplated several weeks and decided not to go through with for several reasons: didn't like having to pay more to reacquire stock options (bluetooth, steering wheel control, XM etc) i once had and will lose going Ddin route, the screen does look out of place and somewhat low for viewing sitting in the drivers seat, all most all the features DDin provides can be compensated for fraction of DDin price (Garmin, ISimple, video interface to play video etc).
I too never actually played a single tape until i read this thread, shortly afterward i found myself quickly digging through my attic looking for a tape to play....... to my surprise i found a old tape called " MC Hammer" !! popped it in and it actually sounded pretty good it sounded better than my cassette to IPOD connection!
i've got no problems w/ the cassette thingy and quite frankly, i feel reluctant to have a such a nice car w/ splash of oldies
