HFL problems with my Motorola E815
Hi all,
I'm a new 04 TL owner (LOVING the car). I bought a Motorola E815 specifically so that I could use the HFL in the car. So, I followed the instructions on pairing, and everything worked great. It recognized the phone, displays were right, etc. Two or three days later, I get in the car, and no phone! If I click the button to say a command, it says "No phone found".
So I took a quick look at it at lunch today. When I ask the the HFL for the phone list, it lists the name of the phone. I checked the phone to make sure that bluetooth is on and under Settings, Connection, Bluetooth Link, Setup, Power, it is set to On. I have checked this a number of times over the past couple of days. Does anybody have any ideas? I tried pairing to the phone again, it was trying for a while, but nothing happens. I suspect that something is not set right in the phone? According to the manual, the bluetooth indicator icon only shows when there is a connection to a device.
I must be missing something somewhere! Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Power off the phone, then remove the battery for a minute or so. Re-install the battery, power-on the phone, enable bluetooth, and see if the car recognizes it.
Sometimes, these phones need to be 'reset'.

My E815 was giving me trouble the last time I tried to pair it to the TL. I would get all the way down to naming the phone on the system and then the system would just shut off but my Dad's V710 (the predecessor to the E815) would work fine and connected. Remove the battery and keep trying, eventually it will work.

OK, I tried multiple times taking the battery out and nothing. Tried to pair it again and nothing was found. The strange thing is that when I go to Settings, Connection, Bluetooth Link, Setup, Power, it is set to On, but when I try to change it to Off, it doesn't let me. It says Setting to off, but when it goes back to the display, it says On again. I can't seem to change it. So I am guessing that it's not really on. Anybody have any other suggestions for me?

Many of the original HFL modules on '04s were defective, and were replaced by their first owners. Mine paired OK with my e815, but it couldn't always understand the English language. Dealer service replaced it under warranty, no questions asked. Do you know if your module is the original? If not, replacement is easy, but not cheap. I think the part is pretty expensive if you have to pay for it.

Tried the battery thing again multiple times and still no progress. shftl, one of the reasons that I'm so anxious to get this issue solved is to be able to use it enough to see if it understands commands. For the short time that the phone was recognized, it did seem to understand me.

The replacement module works like a charm--caller ID, bars, roam, battery, as well as the calls themselves. If you bought from a dealer and have a warranty that covers it it's quick and simple to switch the module out. You could do it yourself if you got the part, there's a service bulletin on this in the 3G Garage under Problems and Fixes. As the owner (and lover) of an '04. and having dealt with its teething problems, I would be readier to suspect the module than the phone, unless you know it's been replaced.

Well, I tried another person in the office's bluetooth phone, and it worked without any problem. It must be my phone. I don't know where to go from here. I think I have been through every setting on the phone. Any other ideas anyone?

If its not workin, i'm guessin somethin is wrong with the phone...

Just a quick update on this. I called the Motorola help people, and they suggested to do a Master Reset on the phone. I tried this, and it worked. Bluetooth could turn on and off normally, and was recognized by the car immediately. I was happy....until I powered the phone on and off! Once it was powered off, when I turned it back on and I went into the menu to turn on the bluetooth, I would get the same thing. If you turn the bluetooth on, it says On, but the bluetooth icon does not flash, and the phone is not recognized. Also, trying to set bluetooth to say off doesn't work. It says it's set to off, but then when you look at the setting, it says on. This is a real bummer for me, because otherwise I really love the phone. The standby battery life has been amazing.
