Help Please......I Need to watch DVD's while I drive

Hi everyone. I just found this cite the other day and so far it helped me fix the problem with my Samsung A900. Great forum for Acura owners....

ANYWAY, I have a problem. I own a 2005 TL w/ Navi. I want the Navi to play DVD's without losing any of the other features on the system. Is this even possible???

FYI, I'm not car savy and I know little about how this Navigation system works. I basically want to be able to bring it to someone, pay whatever, and have this thing play DVD's. Please help. I live in Westchester County, NY so if anyone knows a place around here that is reputable and can do somethign like this let me know.

Thanks everyone.

Isn't "need" a rather strong word here?

There are lots of threads on this subject. Basically, you need a DVD video player and to cut and splice some connections. Any decent AV installer should be able to do this quite easily. The navi itself won't play DVDs, but the navi screen will display the video from the DVD player you need to buy.

You need to crash and kill someone, too? Watching TV while driving?

HAHAHAHA..... The traffic in New York is ridiculous. I need something to make the time go by.

Really, the reason why I want this is so I can buy DVD's of my favorite bands in concert and listen to their live music them through the stereo. Since there aren't that many good DVD-A discs out there (or at least one's I like), I figured since the car has 5.1 DVD-audio, if i could get it to play my DVD's then I could just put in any of these music DVD's and get surround sound quality. Not to mention, I think it would be pretty cool to have your favorite band playing through there and have them in concert on your dashboard.

Don't worry, I will keep my eyes ont he road.....

Cocheese07, here's another option and A lot cheaper than what you're planning on. Why not rip it and convert to DVD-A? Check out this thread. Unless you do wanna watch!

um.. even with dvd video you won';t be able to use the 5.1 system it's only going to be in stereo. there's no optical or spdif in on the headunit to decode 5.1 audio from an aftermarket player.

That's unbelievably dangerous

A few words of warning - most states and municipalities passed laws to prevent drivers from viewing video while driving. The monitor has to be out of the driver's line of sight. If you're spotted by the cops, they won't write you a ticket. They'll show you the luxurious corinthian vinyl decor in the back of their crusier. It's the kind of thing that gets your license suspended post-haste.

Not that I'm not looking into something like this for myself though.
I'm working on an iPod adapter for my TL - HK Drive + Play with the P.I.E. X3 adapter. The D+P doesn't handle videos, so I'll have to run a separate video cable directly off the dock connector to a video input device. If I decide to add video, I'll probably use this device and play the audio through the P.I.E. device.

And forget about surround sound DVD video in your TL. That's a tall order requiring nothing short of swapping out the entire navigation and stereo head unit. Since none of the late model Acuras use DIN or double DIN stereo enclosures, you're looking at redesiging your whole dash to accomodate a feature you'll use "only when you're stuck in traffic."

Good luck whatever you do. Be sure to post photos!
