When I click the picture it saves as jpeg automatically. In the save as screen I could change it from JPEG to bmp, and when I do it, it gives me the error. When I tried a different pic it saves as a bmp automatically and it worked. I think I have to convert the pics from JPEG to bmp and try it.

Hi all! I am new to the forums and I have been reading about this for a while now in the TSX forum. There are plenty of pages about it! One thread had like 40+ pages!
At any rate, to help out newbies like myself, here is a summary of what I found. Mods and senior posters, please correct me if I'm wrong.
I recently bought an 06 TL and tried this out on it. It works!
The original program was created by a very talented guy that goes by the name of Bysin. He has gotten into legal trouble since then and basically development has stopped.
Please see the thread located here for the navi images that you can use. Post all navi images in this thread.
How to get hold of the program:
-----------------------------------------
The programs (command and graphical versions) are currently available through here: http://philipedge.com/Acura_TL
Instructions on how to use the program:
---------------------------------------------------
They are also provided in the zip files that you download, but I will go into some additional details. I like using the command line version.
1. Put the keys in the car and turn it so the NAV turns on (dont need to start the engine). At the main screen of the navigation system (the disclaimer works), hold down the Map/Guide, Menu, and Cancel buttons for 5 seconds.
2. Hit the "Version" button on the touch screen.
3. Hold down the Menu button for 5 seconds.
4. Write down the filename next to the words "Loading
Filename" (mine is BNHH401A.BIN).
5. Leaving the keys in, open your trunk and find the DVD player attached to the navigation system.
6. Push down the front plate and eject the Navigation
DVD-ROM. (You can now take the keys out of the car)
7. Place the DVD in your computer and copy all 9 BIN
files onto your hard drive (should be around 104 MB),
this includes:
BIN file that was on your car, ex:
dumpnavi BNHH401A.BIN extract
9. The files will extract to the directory associated
with the name of the file. The splash screen is called "Back.bmp".
10. After modifying the files, use the dumpnavi tool
to update them to the BIN, ex:
dumpnavi BNHH401A.BIN update Back.bmp
dumpnavi BNHH401A.BIN update navi.exe navi-nonag.exe
dumpnavi BNHH401A.BIN update Diag.exe
11. Copy the modified BIN file, including all other BIN
files (9 in total) to a blank CD or DVD.
12. Insert the origional navigation DVD back into the
DVD-ROM in your car.
13. Start the car normally (or put the key in and turn it so NAV turns on), and at the main navigation screen hold Map/Guide, Menu, and Cancel for 5
seconds once again.
14. Hit the "Version" button on the touch screen once
again.
**** This is where it gets tricky for me *****
15. Take the origional navigation DVD out of the car,
and replace it with the CD/DVD you just created. Leave the front plate of the DVD player open. Run back inside your car!
16. Hit the "Load Disc" button on the Version screen. Run back to the trunk and close the front plate of the DVD player!
17. It should take about 20 seconds for your car to
load the new BIN and reboot. You shoudl see your new Once that happens,
take out your burned CD/DVD and put back the
origional navigation DVD.
18. If anything goes wrong, remove the ground to the
battery for 30 seconds with the origional DVD
in the car. The old OS will load back on the
system.
NOTES FROM MYSELF AND OTHERS
-----------------------------------------------
Good luck! I will post any additions and changes if needed. Mods and other members, please email or PM me for changes so that we make keep this thread clean. Thanks all! I'm glad to be here!
P.S. I will post some screens I've created soon.
Edit mod vp911:
The intention of this thread is to keep it clean with mainly howto's and suggestions.
When posting questions, please be specific as to where you are having problems. Help us, help you. Please read the instructions carefully. Most of the time the answer is right there.
MIN REQUIREMENTS TO DO THIS HACK
DVD-ROM drive to read the original Navi DVD
CD/DVD Burner with Software to burn new Hacked CD/DVD
Some computer knowledge
ADDITIONAL NOTES
The commands you see (like "dumpnavi BNHH401A.BIN extract") are done through window's command prompt (Start > Run > cmd). For the commands to work, the files you specify and the dumpnavi program need to be in the same folder. You will need to change to the correct folder via the cd command.
Here's an example on how to update the splash screen. I copied all files to "Z:\TLNaviFiles" on my computer.
Copy all the bin files, new "Back.bmp", and dumpnavi program to "Z:\TLNaviFiles"
Start > Run > Type "cmd" (enter)
Change to the correct folder: Change to correct drive, for me I type "Z:" (enter). Change to correct folder, for me I type "TLNaviFiles" (enter)
Run the progam. Type "dumpnavi BNHH401A.BIN update Back.bmp"
If you get no errors, the files are now ready to be burned onto CD/DVD! Continue to step 11 in the instructions.
If dumpnavi gives you errors, I can't really help you there (others may still). The development has stopped for this program and I am not planning to look at source code.
You can PM me if you want specific help, but please be detailed.

NOTES FROM MYSELF AND OTHERS
-----------------------------------------------
- I found it easier to do the disk swapping phase with 2 people. One sitting in the car, the other swapping disks in the trunk.
- The new pictures needs to be (to prevent lag):
- BMP format with no more than 256 colors
- named: "Back.bmp"
- dimensions: 480x234x256 BMP (max)
- size: 110 KB (113,068 bytes) (max)
- size on disk: 112 KB (114,688 bytes) (max)
- If using Photoshop, one way to meet the pictures specs is to convert the picture from RGB to Indexed (Image > Mode > Indexed Color). Once inside the indexed color dialog box, chose Local (Perceptual) from the Palette drop down menu. Then input 173 in the Colors field. This will alter your colors in your image because you are limiting the palette, so you might have to make some sacrifices or changes to the image. Then save as bitmap, 8 bit. Another way is to crop the image on the sides a bit (I haven't tried that yet).
- The BMP gets stretched vertically about 30% from the BMP to the screen.
So just compress the image vertically by 30% and it should look normal when it's on screen. (I haven't played with this yet). - A CD, CDRW, or DVD may be used. So far, TDK CDRWs and CDRs work fine for me.
- Burn the disk with Nero or similar program in ISO mode. I dont know if that makes a difference, but its working in this mode.
Good luck! I will post any additions and changes if needed. Mods and other members, please email or PM me for changes so that we make keep this thread clean. Thanks all! I'm glad to be here!

OK- I had no problem doing the Trip Computer/AC hack- that was easy! Now I am into the hack to delete the nag screen only. I've copied the nine BIN files to my hard drive(C). When I run the dumpnavi program, nothing happens. What am I missing?

There is no hack for that OK screen yet. That is what they are working on right now.

I ran the TSX navi software for about 6 months so I could have the trip computer/instantaneous fuel meter. Have you noticed that there is a difference between the elasped timer in the TSX trip computer and the TL MID? I finally reverted back to the TL software at the end of October because that was the only way I could get the dashboard clock to fall back an hour with the time change.
#99
The morning after I ran the trip computer/AC hack my emmisions light came on and stayed on until I disconnected the battery and reset the nav software back to the original TL version. I noticed that the trip computer was showing 50+ MPG while I was driving around 60MPH. Maybe a compatibility problem with 06 models?

Im looking at the code and I have found several areas that jump out at me:

First off I dont know what the hell Im doing. Second off I wouldn't do this to my nav... Third off... Did I mention that I dont know what im doing.
.text:0031EB84 mov.l @(h'24,pc), r0 ; [0031EBAC] = sub_31EA4C
.text:0031EB86 jsr @r0 ; sub_31EA4C

.text:0031EB88 nop
.text:0031EB8A mov.l @(h'28,pc), r0 ; [0031EBB4] = sub_31B904
This is right after the code further above, calls init(void), and looks like its doing some hard core work.
So if I knew what I was doing... I would bypass the first step to the code... .text:0031EB86 nop
Keep in mind that all this came from my ass. And most likey will not work, and will remove 5 whp
This this was my shot in the dark.

NOTE: The original one in the pic of my navi felt a little too squished, so instead of vertically scaling the image 30% as it suggests in this tutorial, I went 20% with the BMP I posted. It should look a bit better.

06AVN2.bin is the one (for 2006 version 6.11c)

The only one which dumpnavi.exe will open up is 06AVN2.bin, and it crashes while in the middle of listing the file. I'm also unable to dump files with it.
The file 06AVN2.bin is the one you want.
Bysin's program (dumpnavi) AssUMed that there would be a maximum of 128 modules and 128 files in 06AVN2.bin.
It turns out that there are 101 files but 1613 modules. Since Bysin didn't check for >128 when he loaded the modules, they over-write other variables in memory with the usual consequences.
I increased the maxium number of each to 500 and 4000 (but I don't check for excess either ) and I can now list what is in 06AVN2.bin.
Info, source code and executable are here:
http://guicide.com/cars/2006civic/nav/hacks/
The Honda startup screen is Opening1.bmp.
The Acura startup screen is Opening3.bmp.
Both screens are 16 bit!
Paint Shop Pro can not display the Opening screen, but MS Paint and Internet Explorer can.

Wait, will this eliminate us hitting the "OK" screen? Is this only for Honda Civic's?

He did however mention 06AVN2.bin.
If your DVD has this file on it, then my information is relevant.
I have not yet succeeded in getting the start-up screen to change.
When/if I do, I'll attack the OK button.
It would not hurt the hacking effort if people would list the following info:
Make, Model, Year, Version of DVD
So, I'm:
Honda, Civic Hybrid, 2006, Version 6.11C
[44.5 MPG on first two tanks ]

This is all great information and work guys, but any chance you could help out your Ridgeline owning cousins?
The Ridgeline has the white DVD version 4.13 (or 4.31 depending on age). I have tried the original dumpNavi.exe and get an invalid rom header message. With the new Bysin.exe, I get nothing. I don't see the 'extracting' message, but after about 20 seconds the cursor returns, with no errors displayed or anything, and no extracted bitmap.
The bin files are:
sjca.bin 4,011,423 bytes
sjca2.bin 21,255,379 bytes
I appreciate any suggestions or assistance.

Hardware Solution
http://www.kptechnologies.com/
If any of you are really brave you can install this hardware bypass. It requires you to solder to the navi circuit board. I think it basically counts a certain time delay (I assume to allow the Navi to boot up) then when it expects the "OK" screen it automatically issues a screen press as if you touched the screen. I don't know if anyone has tried this on an Acura.
If anyone can find an automated way in software to say "OK" the Nav still needs time to boot up. That's what it is doing while it displays the nag screen... so no matter what mods are done, you are really just saving the touch on the screen, not necessarily making it boot faster.
KPTech also make an auto window up module to allow you to roll up the windows via the key fob. Not sure if the TL can do this, but the TSX can't. This has been installed on the TSX and seems to work well.

anyway i have 04 3.3 ver. half of the 9 bin file names are all different. GUI gives me error messages like your "nag hack isn't supported on your car" or thing like that. BMP pic worked nonetheless. just FYI.
BTW, it don't matter when you load the modify CD. if you get some warning screen saying the disk is no good, just hit "guide+menu+cancel" again to bring you to the "version" -> "disc load" then it'll load. no need to run back and forth or leave whatever door open. at least not on mine.
