Female vs. Male Navi
Does anyone actually use the male voice for the Navi system. my wife obviuosly prefers it, but I stuck to the girl as the guy sounds :ghey:

I've tried both and actually find the male voice is clearer. My wife and I tried both voices repeat the same things and there were times the female was a bit less clear.

I used the male voice. Its clearer and less annoying. Plus, I don't want a woman giving me directions. Its degrading and they're not to be trusted.

TL-SHAWD 6MT Rocks!
I had female NAV in my 99TL and 00TL (sounded more oriental than the current one)
but I got sick of it...
now that I have a choice, I think the male voice sounds more professional and soothing....

there needs to be an annoyance setting with options like "tell me to turn off this road every 500 ft" or "tell me once to get off the freeway and STFU"
gets annoying when you're trying to listen to music.

I would like a firmware upgrade to the Navi that would give us an option to select "Automatic Navigation Voice ON/OFF".
I like the aural feedback when I give commands, so that I know that my "Radio 101.5 FM" command didn't get interpreted as "Radio 100.9 FM" for example. It should still give us the capability to press the "Directions" button on the Map display to get an audio cue on demand.

Anyone else think there's gotta be a way to add a voice to the system? Any computer hackers out there that can tell us how? I would like my navi to curse and use poor english so it would be more realistic! Or maybe get some recordings from an NYC taxi driver! That would be cool.

With the keyless memory settings, can Memory Setting one have a different voice (male) vs. Memory Setting two (female)? In other words, can one person have the male and the other have female, and when their seat and climate settings change automatically, can the voice preference do the same?
thanks,

Female Voice for now. However, I'm starting to notice that I mentally tune her out. (Must be a habit I picked up from being married.) I have missed so many street turns because she'll say something, and It goes in one ear and out the other.
I may need to change to the male voice.

Keep Right Except to Pass
I have it set to the female voice because having a female trying to tell you what to do seems normal (probably also why I sometimes ignore the directions it gives me if I don't like them).

I want HOMER'S voice!
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm DONUT!!!
Or PETER from the Family Guy: "This is freakin' sweet!"
I think you may be able to take the DVD navigation disc, pop it into your computer, find the voice files, figure out how to play them, them using a microphone into your computer, modify them, rename the files with the same name (so the navi computer will recognize them), and write to a dual layer DVD. Could this work?

My 7 year old daughter insisted on the male voice. My wife prefers it slightly. I'm indifferent, so it's Hal.
Locked my keys in the trunk the other day. Found myself saying, "Open the pod bay door, Hal. OPEN THE POD BAY DOOR, HAL!!!"
