Factory Subwoofer replacement

Would this shubwoofer fit in the factory 8" slot? I know the depth has to be 3.375" and this looks like it should fit right in

I changed the stock sub 2 years ago and as far as I remember, It needs to be an open air sub.

I put in the Pioneer 8" TS-SW841D. It's a free air sub that did fit in the factory hole.
BEWARE: You will have to drill new holes to mount, which with the slope of the read window, makes it very difficult. Rattle suppression has also been a battle. (I currently have the center seatbelt reel wrapped in dynamat!)
Now that you've been warned, it is a huge improvement in sound quality, especially since it will be getting more power from an aftermarket amp...

Question Gilla_monster - So you had the need to install an amp just for the replacement Pioneer then? The stock amp won't make a diff just with the Pioneer itself?

I'd read a bunch of articles on AZ about the stock amp issue and being that the factory sub only handles just 30W RMS, i knew that the new one (5x more powerful) would need a lot more juice. Pioneer warns you not to overpower it because it is in a free-air application, so my amp is only 130x1 RMS bridged 2-channel, but it hits very well for an 8"

i would have loved to put a 12" or two, but with the 8" swap, I still have all of my trunk space. Much better than my last car, when I had to shift my sub box around just to fit a milk crate.

I am trying the JL ZR 8 as well once I get all the system comps paid for. It might take some dynamat/deck stabilizing (for the rattles) but gonna give it a shot.

Gilla, did you do anything other than the dynamat?

Every year I come back to this thread and look up the current 8" shallow mount sub and think how I need to replace my bose sub, since the stereo has been installed it hasn't even been running because the stereo shop didn't know how to wire it! Then I look up the current 8" sub on Crutchfield and realize why I haven't bought one. $160 for an 8 in sub is rediculous! Of course it's been sold out for years, so found the latest one. Every year out seems they go up 100 watts. The current 8" by pioneer is 600. Found it on ebay for $60. But then I realize I need to wire an amp! I have several, I just need to learn how to do it! I'd have to buy a wiring kit. Take out the double din stereo. Try and find the keys to take it out. I know it would be worth it if I just did it! Sounds like I'd need sound deadener too. So a $60 sub turns in to a $200 fix. My amp is 300w, not sure if that's too powerful for the sub. Wish instead of a wiring kit I could just replace the oem sub with the one I have.
