Escort ZR3 laser shifting with the 04 TL
Has anyone had any experience with the Escort Laser Shifter (ZR3)? Anyone have it installed on their 04 TL? I'm curious where the front and rear shifters go and how it looks. Has anyone integrated it with their 8500 or 8500 X50 and how it works together. I assume the detector needs to be hardwired in order to integrate the shifter? Does the V1 have a similar unit/features?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I have an escort zr3 laser shifter and a valentine 1. The front transponders are mounted behind the front air dams (I was told the sensors need to mostly see "daylight" which I hope is true as they are slightly taller than the air dam openings). The rear-unit is with the rear license plate. Not noticeable unless you are looking for it. My valentine one is hard wired through the headliner and connected to a remote display unit. I refuse to give up the arrow indicators on the valentine for the "better" integration.
The remote display, escort receiver, and the "mute" button for the escort are mounted in a custom plate matching the rest of the "carbon" look interior in the storage compartment above the outlet/ fake ashtray. When I park, I just close the door to hide the displays and close the sunshade to mostly hide the detector.
I haven't had a chance to "test" the laser shifter. I keep driving on the freeways but can't find any cops :-)

One more note. To see the front sensors I have to get on my knees level with the airdam to see them. They are only visible if you are explicitly looking for them.

Thanks for the replies.
Sounds like the transponders are pretty hidden then, which is good. I was a little concerned about how it looked or if you could tell you even had them installed.
I have an X50 already, but was unsure how it tied in together. I don't have it currently hardwired, but expect it should be. I believe by tying them together you get the readings from the ZR3 on the X50 itself, eliminating the remote display that comes with it. I do like the sound of your install though, having it hidden in the console. Sounds like you have the best of both worlds. Did you install yourself?
Please let me know when you come across some cops and how your ZR3 performed.

Do a Google search on ZR3 and you'll find a bunch of info. Everything I've read said it works great. I went to HIFI Buys yesterday. The guy on the phone told me it was 299.00. I found out the install was another 150.00. I did not pull the trigger on it. He said is about a five hour install, which was why I held off. Going to have to figure out when I can do it. It may be a few weeks before I can schedule it.
