Echo w/ HFL

I'm using a Nextel BlackBerry 7290 phone and I'm having problems with my voice being repeated over the stereo speakers when I'm talking. As a result, there is an echo and the person on the other end can hear it too.

Any clues? Is it the phone itself or some setting I can play with? I searched, but it doesn't seem very consistent amongst most users....

The only thing I can think of in this situation would be that your phone is still "on" somehow and is picking up your voice along with the speaker in the car doing the same (if that makes sense).

That completely makes sense... Not sure how you go about checking that out though... Muffle your phone somewhere completely??? As a test???

Do you mean the Nextel 7520? Nextel has never issued the 7290, only AT&T/Cingular.

Doh! Yes, I mean the 7520. Good catch.

But I wonder if CCns24 actually might be on to something? I've noticed when I'm on a call - that if I take the phone out of the holster on my belt, the display window shows the active call information. I just figured that was normal though, but I guess I can try putting the phone in the trunk or something. It's supposed to work from there, right??

I'll try it out and let you know....

I don't think that your phone is still on and causing this issue, there is no reason for your voice to be played back to you through the system, that would happen only if the person on the other end had speakerphone on and was also using a handset or something.

Try muting the phone while using the HFL and see if they echo goes away. I'm betting that it won't. I'll also try it tomorrow. I just got the 7520 today and paired it up.

Echo cancellation is part of the software on the phone. As I understand it, Bluetooth presents its own challenges and if the software doesn't specifically address echo while using the bluetooth profile, there isn't much you can do until there's a firmware update. I'd call Nextel / Motorola to see if there's an update.

You can also PM mobilezen on this forum to see if he has any ideas.

I had echo problems with my SE618, and Moto V-600 using HFL. Several months ago, I purchased a Moto V-3 Razr, and have never gotten any echo with that phone. It's a great hi-tech phone, works perfectly with the HFL in the TL, and has much better RF performance than either the 618 or V-600. I wouldn't change phones for anything right now....I've never been totally satesfied with any cellphone until the Razr came along. It's one great phone.
