MP3s do not play on pre-08TLs. They need to be converted then burned to DVD-A.
I have used Adobeman's utility to burn a DL DVD-A and it plays fine on my 06TL headunit. I did have to use a real DVD-RW unit (as opposed to one of those crappy Dell laptop units) to get it to burn properly.
Media makes a difference, too. Don't try burning 8GB of music to a crappy Office Depot brand disk and expect it to work. Verbatim DVD disks are top rated.
I just can't remember if I used a DVD-R DL or DVD+R DL. Will check when I get home and update you.

You will want to use the DVD-R disc.

It was a DVD+R DL disk. I've also had success with DVD-R and DVD-RW disks.

Do you have to create a folder and put all the MP3 in it? And then burn it?

Is there any limitation per folder?

You will not be able to burn a DVD of any kind loaded up with MP3 files and play them in a TL. The only DVDs which will play must be in the DVD-A format or a DVD with DTS decoding.

If you have an '07 or later TL, then you can burn your MP3s to a CD-R. Depending on bit rate, you can get 100-130 songs on a disk.

It would be nice to be able to put the MP3s on a DVD due to the higher capacity, but it just won't work.

There are ways to convert MP3s, like Adobeman's utility, but if I understood you, I think you wanted to burn MP3s direct to a DVD.

I have a similar question. I have an 08 type s and I was wondering if I could get 5.1 audio on a regular dvdr to work in my stereo. How would I go about doing this if all I have on my computer is 320kbps mp3s...?

For that, you need AdobeMan's Adobinizer and a program that can burn 5.1 sound to DVD---Adobeman recommends Cirlinca DVD Audio Solo. Look in the 3G Garage or search "Adobinizer" and/or "Adobeman" for everything you need.

I can say that DVD-A transformed from a never-used gimmick to a feature I use everyday. Another to Acurazine for making this info available!

Couple of questions for ya:

I was readin the adobinizer thread and basically what program does is convert mp3's to 5.1? (i wasn't sure if mp3's were 5.1 or not).

And that cirlinca program will allow me to burn the track on a dvd R?

Also is there really a huge difference between regular cd's and dvd audio?
