DVD Navi reliability - how long???

I've got an '04 TL 6 MT; Dealer told me to extend warranty with Acura SOLELY on the basis that to replace the factory DVD navi system could cost $4500!

1) What is the reliability of Acura DVD navi system in '04 TL? (should last # years problem free....?)

2) If the DVD system in the trunk breaks, does it really cost $4500 to replace it? Is this "expense" due to the way the system is harnessed? Or is the dealer trying to blow smoke up my nose?

Get only an acura warranty as aftermarket warranties don't cover unit. And it does run about 4500.00 and you never know when they're going to fail some are good for life of vehicle others get 2-3 units. I work for acura see it all the time.

Welcome to both of you to Acurazine.

I guess it's a gamble. Some Navi's go and others don't.

First of all, its the dealer who's talking. So, automatically, consider the opposite of what he's saying.
I would NOT get an extended warranty just for the mere chance that the navi goes out. If it does, navi drives are readily available on eBay and junk yards for <$500. And it takes 10 minutes to replace, even for noobs.
