For DVD audio users......

I've posted this before but doubt any of you read into it. It's my understanding that right now, we can't make true DVD 5.1 audio discs. If I'm wrong, sorry!

So basically, eveyone's making dvd audio discs using the mp3-to wav format-use dvda script-burn iso image route to load their large libraries of music down to several DVD's that our car's audio system will read.

Well how about this instead....
I mentioned this before, but not sure if anyone caught it, but if you're looking for an external (small, and very portable) HD with complete stereo, digital 5.1 audio out, s-video out, rca out with software built into the chipset that is capable of playing DivX, XviD, MPEG (1,2,4), mp3, wma, wav, and jpegs, I've got an external HD case that does all of this. I just haven't plugged the damn thing up yet via casette adapter or through blitzsafe connector. I would suggest checking it out - probably save you guys alot of time and money from converting, ripping, and burning. It's called the "media share mini - 2.5" mulitmedia player" with full function remote control and will run you about $100.00.

I can play Mpeg4 movies (what the next IPOD's supposed to do.....BTW they already have tons of these players in shanghai, tokyo, etc....), MP3's, everything......no more external DVD players to hook up, no more DVD's to burn, 5.1 audio, and wireless remote control. Just this single HD case enclosed with the 2.5" harddrive of your choice.

check it out....
http://www.ximeta.com/products/media...are/index.html

Not sure why the website says coming soon since I've had mine since February and it's TITS, but you guys get the idea.....

That seems pretty cool, but I'm guessing you'll run into all the same challenges the iPod users face with regards to getting the sound into the car's system. You mentioned cassette adapter or Blitzsafe, but those are both stereo, so the 5.1 output on this device will be unused.

Yes, DVD-A with 5.1 can be burned and played in our cars, too. I haven't tried it, yet, but I've seen nothing that would lead me to believe otherwise.

I have burned a 5.1 DVDA disk using DVDA solo and it works perfectly, all 6 channels recorded independantly of each other.

You are wrong. We are making both 5.1 and stereo DVD Audio discs.

Ok, thanks for the clarification. So we've got people making large stereo audio libraries on DVD discs (that adobeman originally posted the scripts for) and now recently the ability to make 5.1 audio discs using software like one offered at http://www.cirlinca.com/products.htm or similar program. So if I'm just interested in stereo, I can use my current HD setup but if I want 5.1 audio, I'll need to do all the software rips/burns/etc.

Thanks for the responses!

Another way to get 5.1 is through DTS Audio CDs. They are simple to create compared to DVDAs.

Thanks again.

I rip AC3 track from Music DVD audio to 6 channel wave files. either recompress to DTS to burn to CD or make DVD-Audio from it...

btw... you can enjoy 5.1 Movie in your car... here is what i did... I just rip the entire Spiderman II audio track, burn them to DVD-Audio... press play both at the same time... you might be off a sec or 2... but my kids haven't complain about it yet

Over the past 5 days I've served up over 20GIGS of dts music for our acura pals. Now I need that system for a few DL DVDA multichannel burns and cant have the HD spinning at 1mb.

I may put it back online tonight.

How are the DTS files? I also have about 100 multichannel wave files that need to be burned to dvda using dvd solo from cirlinca. Is that of interest to anyone?

I dont need a new system, I needed to use my system and couldnt have the hd spinning like crazy...lol

Ya, I ended up using it until later last night and didnt put it up. Sometimes dvda burning can be finicky and I didnt want to create a coaster, especially with Dual layer discs being so expensive.

I will put it up tonight though, aorund 6pm pst for a few days.

I have 5 slots open. that gives each person about 20kbs up speed since my upstream is 1mb.

I may try and put a timer on each account too so I dont have 5 people on for 12 hours.

Try again tonight.

I may server up the multichannel waves as well.

They have to beburned with DVD Solo or Nero with a multichannel wave plugin

I finally took some pics. I'll post them up soon. I actually have the HD stored in the center compartment underneath the radio/navi.

Dremeled out part of the back of the compartment and the metal bar - perfect fit.

Power Source: Sony PSP Car Adapter - connector works and specs 5V/2A

I love this clarion monitor because it has the option of running 2 different video sources into it and the backseat user can decide from which source to view from.

Very nice!!! I like that monitor as well. Can I have it??

Im going to link Datmrmans media player thread to this one since some are having a hard time coming up with a usable power adapter that meets the requirements.

no problem! yeah, i linked it earlier in his thread but it's probably drowned out. This sony PSP adapter is tits and seems much more reliable/heavy dutier than the cheapo's that you find on ebay for like $10 bucks and half of the time they don't give you full specs or they will say "compatible to so-and-so's adapter."

I did a quick search and retail comes to about $25.00 at your local gaming store.

Ed,
Sorry for the Noob question... How does this unit differ from the Mediagate?

I really like this solution, just waiting for all the kinks to be worked out with power. Where could I find this one?

this unit is the exact same thing as the mediagate, just different labeling but all probably made by the same mfg.

Hotlanta: haha, yeah it's an old mixtape from 91' close to when I first started dj'ing but I do have some good, original 12" casette singles
